Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Wednesday, August 29, 2012

2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the appearance of James Bond in movies. To celebrate the occassion, the makers of the James Bond film series have announced plans to make October 5, 2012 Global James Bond Day, and will mark the event with special events held around the world.

The companies involved with the promotion include EON Productions, the producers of the Bond films (including the new one, Skyfall), Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Sony Pictures Entertainment and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. October 5, 1962 was the day that Dr. No, the very first 007 movie, had its world premiere in London.

"We are absolutely thrilled to be celebrating James Bond's golden anniversary on film with this special day of events for Bond fans around the world," said Skyfall producers and EON Production owners Michael J. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.

Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007 is a new documentary that will be released close to the October 5th date. The film focuses on how Ian Fleming's secret agent found his way into cinemas through the efforts of two men, Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and Harry Saltzman.

Other events planned for October 5 are being decided on, but some include a special night of music featuring material from the Bond movies to be held in Los Angeles; an exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City; and auctions of Bond memorbelia overseen by Christie's auction house.

I really hope they do something for this at the International Spy Museum here in DC.

Turn your head and cough!
