Marvel Studios has spent some coin developing a live-action Ant-Man movie, slated to be directed by Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead). Concept test footage showing scientist Scott Lang walking around in ant-sized form was shown to a packed house at this year's San Diego Comic Con, and it got a favorable reaction from the crowd.
However, at the time Marvel chose to only announce a release date for its Guardians of the Galaxy movie, as well as subtitles for sequels to Thor and Captain America. The likelihood of seeing Ant-Man the movie was left intentionally vague by Marvel, and so we've been wondering if Wright's film would ever get the greenlight.
Today Disney announced that it will move ahead with making Ant-Man as a feature film, and has given the comic book movie a release date of November 6, 2015.
With Iron Man 3 slated for release in May 2013 and Thor: The Dark World in November '13, that leaves Captain America: The Winter Soldier marked for an early summer 2014 release followed by Guardians of the Galaxy in August. The Avengers 2 is pencilled in for May 2015. There's also speculation that Marvel is putting together a plan of action for a live-action Doctor Strange movie, and that Viggo Mortensen is the frontrunner for the part, but that's still not confirmed.
With a release date now announced for Ant-Man, now comes the part of moving ahead with casting. Wright will undoubtedly already have ideas for which actor could play Scott Lang. My own personal belief is that he'll need to find an actor who walks equally in the worlds of comedy and action, and who can also pull off a believable superhero. So can Nathan Fillion finally get a break and be cast as a Marvel superhero now?
What will also come into play will be how Marvel's Ant-Man movie will be set up in advance. Marvel has worked hard on seeding easter eggs and build-ups for future movies, most notably in the end credits of the two Iron Man movies, Captain America, Thor and The Avengers. We'll likely see something hinting at pym particles (the science that allows for Scott Lang to shrink down in size) or maybe even Ant-Man's stylized silver helmet in the background somewhere. Maybe even the character could turn up fighting alongside The Avengers in their second movie.
I still think they could have snuck in an easter egg in Avengers for this. When Tony Stark mentions to Doctor Banner how he'd love the stuff they're doing at Stark Towers (paraphrasing, haven't watched the movie in a couple of week), I think it would have been great to say something like "You'd love the stuff Dr Pym is doing".

Not that I have a lot of invested interest in this movie, but it seems to me they should be using Hank Pym instead of Scott Lang. After all, they are called pym particles.
