He-Man and the Masters of Bollywood
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Friday, July 3, 2009
It shouldn't come as a surprise that someone in India's movie business made a Bollywood musical out of Mattel's He-Man and the Masters of the Universe action figures line. I've seen a Turkish Star Wars and another Bollywood film about Spider-Man, both of which had budgets equivalent to a night out dining at TGIFs. This He-Man video had better production values than those others.
I haven't a clue as to what larger show this five-minute segment appears in; the mere fact that it exists is proof enough of how strange our universe is. For a He-Man musical at least the show's production designer got the costumes somewhat right for the characters but still, it's kinda creepy to see a midget doing his best Orko impersonation and not really pulling it off. And who's the guy sitting back and smoking supposed to be anyway? That's what gives it away that this video was probably taken from some full-length Indian movie. But still....He-Man? Have the people making Grayskull seen this yet? Maybe they can crib an idea or two from it to get their production out of Hollywood development hell.
