By now anyone that's spent more than twenty minutes online will have seen the many parodies using a now infamous clip from Downfall, the German 2004 film that starred Bruno Ganz in a riveting performance as Adolf Hitler in his final days. If you haven't seen the film there's a scene where Hitler is given the news that the war is over for Germany. Hitler then proceeds to chew out his commanders for letting this happen.
Back when the Blu-ray versus HD-DVD war was on, this clip from Downfall was used to illustrate the victory of Blu-ray over HD-DVD. The video was a huge viral hit and since then, whenever the next big subject of interest to the online crowd pops up, someone boots up their copy of Final Cut and slaps new subtitles on the sequence. And now it's been done for the geek flavor of the moment, James Cameron's Avatar!
I wouldn't be pointing it out if it wasn't a pretty funny take on the crazyness surrounding the online Avatar debate and the wait that James Cameron fanboys (myself included) have endured to see his next work. A word of warning: while the dialogue remains in the film's original German the subtitles are in English and some are NSFW.
Ummm...what was Hitler expecting? I am super=hyped after the trailer! It is definitely the smoothest, cleanest looking CGI I've seen yet.
I like that the trailer gives little away. I've seen it twice now at Inglorious Basterds (worth a second viewing) and you know what other trailer I've seen? 'Armored'. Seen it a million times, and so much plot is revealed that I'm going to skip the movie.
That clip is effing hilarious, though.
The good Col. is dead right. That clip is hilarious, but the Avatar TEASER reaction is a nightmare and just shows how our cynical bastard asses have developed in this glorious age of the internet post SW prequels.
Christ, there is a movement online now trying to say that The Dark Knight was a bad movie.
I wouldn't say The Dark Knight was a *bad* movie (I would even go so far as to say that I liked enough about it to go ahead and say that I liked it), but a number of things about it annoyed the fuck out of me, and I can understand why some people might feel the need to bitch about those things.
There are, of course, people out there so desperate to go against public opinion that they will say anything, as long as it's antagonistically contrary to majority rule.
I'd repeat those things yet again, but the majority of them can be found in the forums. If you want to go digging for them, be my guest.
