Dig Dug: The Scary Movie

Video game movies are the easy target for parodies; after all, when the majority of real films based on games are so awful (remain standing in the corner of the room Uwe Boll!), you can expect to see people mocking the absurdity of the phenomena. Yet here we are and Universal has an Asteroids movie in development which only goes to prove that reality is stranger than fiction.

The writers and creators working for the Gamervision website thought that there had to be a way to take one of the classic coin-op games from the 1980s, Atari's Dig Dug, and graft it on a template that could connect with today's youth. Since Final Destination and Saw films seem to be in with the kids, why not turn Dig Dug into a slasher movie? My Bloody Valentine's guy had a miner's pick so why not have a killer with a shovel and airhose?

Give it a while and someone really will make a Dig Dug movie. This is just foreshadowing.
