Not as underwhelming as it was for Spacey after he read that thread headline!
Fascinating stuff, for sure.
The Powers That Be cannot keep this stuff under wraps forever. The "Cosmic Watergate," As Prof. Stanton Friedman described it, will probably be revealed in bits and pieces over time in the years and decades to come, as opposed to all at once, which I would prefer.
Oh well. I'll take what I can get.
The other night I watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind. It is my favourite movie of all time. The story, acting, dialogue, pacing, subject matter, music, special effects.... without a doubt the movie that affected me the most as an impressionable 6-year old.
And there are those who claim that CE3K is in fact based on true events, namely Project Serpo:

Make of this what you will.
The Queen's astronomer was talking about alien life at the weekend. Let me see what I can dig out.....
Here you go:

But Dr Frank Drake, the world’s leading “ET hunterâ€, told the conference that satellite TV and the “digital revolution†was making humanity invisible to aliens by cutting the transmission of TV and radio signals into space.
Well, damn.
Does that mean that we've effectively cloaked ourselves from the sight of other intelligent life forms in the universe?

"Lord Martin Rees, president of the Royal Society and astronomer to the Queen, said the existence of extra terrestrial life may be beyond human understanding...
....“They could be staring us in the face and we just don’t recognise them. The problem is that we’re looking for something very much like us, assuming that they at least have something like the same mathematics and technology,†he said.
“I suspect there could be life and intelligence out there in forms we can’t conceive. Just as a chimpanzee can’t understand quantum theory, it could be there as aspects of reality that are beyond the capacity of our brains.â€"

I've been saying this for years. What if many of our long-cherished myths, legends, and religions are actually the result of extra-terrestrial contact? What if the various prophets and holy men throughout the centuries, who claimed to have had messages from God or divine inspiration, were simply interpreting alien contact the only way they knew how?
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. What if it turns out we've been worshipping ETI all this time?

Cite your damned source, Plagiarist!
(Clarke, Arthur C. Profiles of the Future: An Inquiry into the Limits of the Possible. Rev. Ed. New York: Harper & Row, 1973.)
Luke Skywalker - Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope: 1' 38"
Anyway..... considering how things such as thunder were interpreted as the anger of the Gods and things we now understand as naturally occuring destructive weather patterns were pegged as divine retribution until we understood them, it is as plausible a theory as any..... except for that religion thing.
The Hindu Vedas speak of advanced technology, spacecraft, celestial beings, etc..... http://www.hinduwisdom.info/Vimanas.htm
Who is to say that they were wrong?
The Universe is vast, it is old, it is more sophisticated than we can possibly imagine. There are only two ways of finding out the truths that it contains.
The first is to observe and wait and hope that it reveals itself, someday.....
The second is to go out there and find it.
I opt for the second. Who's with me?
Yes!!! .....and no.
Whilst I agree that "Man's Greatest Adventure" (TM) appears to have stalled and that we need some jump leads for it a.s.a.p. I would also like to see a bit more spent on understanding our own planet, particularly the depths of the ocean. I think the answers to a lot of the problems we may be creating for ourselves can be found down there.

It appears that we were on the receiving end of an attempted interstellar invasion by some Toblerone.
Damn you, you crafty Swiss!!!!
