One of my friends from school has started doing something really cool on his blog. He is taking his favorite old school 8-bit video games and recreating a sprite from each using 3D software. Basically, each pixel becomes a 3D box, the image is still mostly two-dimensional, but the little bit of extra depth allows for rending some nice shadows and things. I think they are simple, yet pretty slick so I thought I'd share them with you guys. He's only posted four pieces so far.

Those are pretty cool. Makes me want to tile my bathroom floor with a recreation of a map of Hyrule.
