I should have stayed home today.  The storm that hit us last Wednesday was real bad for me.  It took me 8 hours to get home from work and that included walking for about 3/4 mile and hitchhiking.  With the ice planned to hit this afternoon, I do not want to go through that again.

I'm home again today. Ice storm overnight and pretty much all day today. W00t.

I knew there was supposed to be weather coming sometime this week, but is it that bad in our area today? I don't suppose I'll get a snow day.

It's not really that bad.  Our neighborhood was icy this morning, and since school was cancelled and the Federal Government was on liberal leave, I figured I'd take advantage of it.  Tomorrow morning might actually be bad, though.

The wind is mighty wicked in the Windy City tonight. Quite ugly.

The gentle 2" that fell this a.m. has been scrubbed off western roofs & all horizontal surfaces, and tossed everywhere. I have miniscule accumulations of snow on my eastern windows. Here in the city, I've lived with my eastern windows cracked open, inches open, for years before. Rain & stuff just DOESN'T come in eastern windows. FedX & UPS called at 2:00 p.m. today and said they won't be open tomorrow. They are warning people to stay off of Lake Shore Drive because of 25' waves coating the road, and there are reports of pedestrians being blown around Downtown like chaff.

I'm buttoned up with a 12 pack (now minus 4) and the power just flickered. Wish us luck!

We got something like 17" here, and MU is closed for the second day in a row. They did come and plow our parking lot this morning though, which surprised me, considering all the idiots yesterday who decided they just had to see if they could get their cars out, and promptly got stuck 5 feet from their spots, completely blocking the drive.

Now we just have to deal with the -20 wind chill, and a 30% chance of snow again on Saturday. Joy.

We're supposed to get more snow on Saturday as well.  The boy has his birthday part on Sunday.  I hope it doesn't end up getting cancelled.  We had to cancel last year's due to the Snowpocalypse.

I just had to snow blow the driveway, but other than that, it was the cleanest commute to work I've had since the week between Christmas and New Years. All the schools being closed helped.

Glad to hear you're OK KV & about your lot.

Storm mostly over here, wind finally dying down. There is a snow drift in the middle of my block. It streaches from a neighbor's picture window across the street, and it bottoms out at the roof of my car. Cool.

Sent Mr RK to dig out my Pop about 10 minutes ago, but I don't expect to see him for hours. Pop lives about 6 blocks away. Mr RK has the digicam, and promised to take pics. I took some at 7:00 a.m. during a quieter part of the storm, the snow drifts are just fantastic.

Chicago is totally screwed, though. We won't dig out of this today and tomorrow doesn't look good either. A couple hundred got stranded on Lake Shore Drive, and I'll be surprised if that is clear by Friday a.m. Why that thing was still open, especially north bound, at 6:00 last night I'll never know, I've seen it shut down for far less.

Hopefully the shop will be shut down Thursday too, because I don't know how I'd even get to the bus with all our sidestreets drifted shut.

17" here last night, and of course my boss made me come in to work.  Do you think I sat there alone and closed early?  Oh no.  Of course not.  I threw everyone out finally at 1am, then plowed myself a path doing 30 in second gear the mile to my sister's apartment rather than spend 2 hours to get home (maybe).  I didn't stop at stop signs and only had to rock my way out of the lot at work and slam my way into a snowbank to park.  Driving home today was fun, too, and only took me double the normal time.  All the main roads were plowed, but they hadn't gotten around to the left turn spaces in the medians, so I had to go 10 miles out of my way.  There is so much snow in the lot outside the condo, the piles are 10 feet already, and the plow guys have built a 3 foot snow median in the middle of the drive.

 Lucky.

Just got word that MU is going to be closed tomorrow too. That's pretty unprecedented.

I'm kind of enjoying that this is like..the ONE blizzard that's skipping Minnesota. But as a fringe benefit, the teacher of my Wednesday night class is stuck in Texas today. So I get the night off but don't have to deal with the immediate blizzard problems, like mentally retarded people fighting their way through traffic.

Good luck to the rest of you!

I have to correct my last post: apparently it wasn't angry Redskins fans who wrote that list, it was written by Washington City Paper columnist Dave McKenna, a guy whom Redskins owner Dan Snyder is now trying to destroy.

Do you disagree with any of those things, Jack?  I think Snyder's a complete douche.

On that list? I don't have any particular reason to think they are not true, so I choose to not question them, cause I think they are funny and I don't particularly like Snyder.
