Random III

It upsets me that the numbering system of the random threads isn't itself random.
Didn't know where else to put this (didn't want to stick it back in the comics forum, no one reads those). Bono and the Edge and Julie Taymour discussing the upcoming Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark that is finally gonna open this December. Everything sounds pretty cool, what with pop-up sets, funky costumes and Spidey fighting villains all over the theater, sometimes flying through the air at 40 miles/hour. Julie Taymour may make things complicated, but pretty much everything she does is awesome. The only thing I'm concerned about is this "Swiss Miss" character. The costume is cool, but seriously, WTF?
Also, the first listen to one of Peter Parker's (played by Reeve Carney) songs, called "Boy Falls From the Sky."
"Hate Meets the Doo-Doo"
On a balmy day not unlike
Your last and loneliest day--
And on a wooded stretch of road
Whose slow curve
You could not see--
That All-Consuming Hate
You love so much
First met the Doo-Doo.
They talked a time,
Breasts outward-thrust and aflame
With the unearned dignity of youth.
They talked, and you wondered
When Hate would eat the Doo-Doo.
But, no,
The Doo-Doo
Ate at
The Hate.
It ate and it ate.
It ceased when it reckoned
It was only eating itself.
It left just enough
To leave the world
Enough of it to get by on.
Enough was enough
For it
To multiply into perpetuity,
And the Doo-Doo soon grew
To cover over Everything.
On grew the Doo-Doo.
Not so long in,
Everything wasn't sure
If it wasn't Doo-Doo,
Too.
Keep that Doo Doo away!
KEEP AWAY
Sickness spilling through your eyes
Craving everything you thought was alive, yeah
Stab me in the heart again, ah yeah
Drag me through your wasted life, are you forever dead?
Do like I told you
Stay away from me
Never misunderstand me
Keep away from me
Twisting everything around that you say, yeah!
Smack me in my mouth 200 times every other day
Rag me, I don’t hear you anymore, not yet
Find out what it means to me, I don’t know who you are
Do like I told you
Stay away from me
Never misunderstand me
Keep away from me
Do like I told you
Stay away from me
Never misunderstand me
Keep away from me
Draggin’ on so lonely, aren’t you tired baby? Yeah!
Breathing life into your lungs, are you immune to me?
Immune to me
Immune to me
Immune to me
Maybe yeah yeah yeah!
Do like I told you
Stay away from me
Never misunderstand me
Keep away from me
Saints play on Monday night. Now that they won the Super Bowl, they're on tv all the time!
When I was looking through some movie trailers earlier, I saw the title I Saw You, but I was a little disappointed when I found out that it wasn't another installment in the Saw series.
This is random, but I don't know where else to put it where people will see it.
Back in high school, I read a book by F. Paul Wilson called The Keep (now apparently out of print, but due to be re-released in Dec., according to Borders.com), and I really enjoyed it. Several years ago I was surprised to discover it had been turned into a movie in 1983. Not only that, but it was written and directed by Michael Mann and starred Jurgen Prochnow, Gabriel Byrne, and Ian McKellan! I know it's only on VHS, and even then it's rare, but I just read that a DVD release is on Paramount's website, but no release date, and no information if it's the 90-minute theatrical cut or the close-to-3-hour director's cut. Anyone else heard anything about this, or even seen the film?
I've seen it. It's one of the many movies my mother pirated when we were living in Germany between 1983 and 1987. I'm pretty sure it was the ninety minute version I saw. It's one of the 900+ movies I watched when I went through our pirated movie collection in 1990.
My memory of it is pretty hazy. I remember a tall monster thing that spoke telepathically, and I remember Gabriel Byrne trying to protect himself with a cross.
Turns out the theatrical cut is on YouTube in full (ten parts).
If I remember rightly it is very, very different in movie form to the book, and that the movie isn't that good. Was it that movie that has the trippy Tangerine Dream soundtrack?
The Saints may be looking for a new field goal kicker real soon.
Watched The Keep on youtube this weekend. Wasn't god-awful, but you could tell someone got in and edited the crap out of it. The alternate ending is on youtube as well, so that was nice. I'd really like to see it on DVD with the director's cut that restores everything that was clearly cut out.
And how did you find it in comparison to the book?
I think it has quite a thorough, and interesting, Wikipedia entry if memory serves.
I watch all my shows via Wikipedia.
I find they sometimes go in a completely different direction to the expected. Sometimes, if you go back weeks later you would swear that they have completely changed.
I haven't read the book since high school, but what I remembered was pretty different. They kept the basics and cut the rest. Of course, if there is a director's cut, it could all be in that.
