What's the mantra for making movies? "Show, don't tell."  SHOW ME YOUR PINK! Don't tell me about it. Unless it's nasty. Then I don't even want you to tell me about it.

Since we're talking about all things pink (except, with any luck, So-What-I'm-Still-a-Rockstar Pink), can someone tell me what the hell "pink as the bing on your cherry" means?

I get that the song is one long metaphor for a woman's vagina, and I know of the existence of the "bing cherry," but bing cherries aren't pink.  There is no "bing" on them, to my knowledge.

I can't help it, some of the language in this makes me laugh:

change.org wrote:

OVERVIEW

Each year, the FBI fails to count hundreds of thousands of rapes in its Uniform Crime Report (UCR)—even missing many rapes that are reported to police. That’s because for over 80 years, the FBI has been using the same fundamentally flawed definition of “forcible” rape: “The carnal knowledge of a female forcibly and against her will” to track rape statistics in the UCR.

This excludes rapes involving forced anal sex and/or oral sex, vaginal or anal fisting, rape with an object (even if serious injuries result), rapes of men and transgender people and other injurious and degrading sexual assaults. Also, because the definition includes the word “forcibly,” police departments often interpret the rule (against UCR guidelines) as leaving out rapes of women with physical or mental disabilities and those who were unconscious or under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

recent Ms. investigation revealed that the archaic definition plays a key role in the vast underreporting of rape in the U.S.:

·      The FBI’s 2007 Uniform Crime Report listed 91,874 “forcible rapes”, but some estimates suggest the actual number may be 24 times higher.

·      Police departments go to great lengths to look good on the UCR, the FBI’s comprehensive national crime report by which all U.S. police departments are judged, and federal funding is determined. Often this means interpreting “forcible rape” even more narrowly than the FBI does when classifying sexual crimes.

·      Police departments across the country, notably Baltimore and Philadelphia, have been found to be juking the stats—coding legitimate rape cases as “unfounded” in order to make it appear that rape numbers have declined.

Without an accurate definition, we won't have accurate statistics about rape, and without accurate statistics, we will never have adequate funding for law enforcement to solve these crimes.  A change in the definition of rape would lead to better law enforcement response and could thus reduce dramatically the incidence of rape.

It’s high time for a change. For rape survivors, a modern definition of rape at the federal level would acknowledge, once and for all, that rape is rape—and that the stories and experiences of all rape survivors count.

Make sure that all rapes are counted. Sign this petition to tell FBI Director Robert Mueller and Attorney General Eric Holder to update the overly narrow, outdated “forcible rape” definition.

I glanced at the comments, and one of the commenters claimed to be the organzier for SlutWalk in Kansas City.  Thanks to these forums, I knew what that was!  Also, I'm confused as to why a woman being only anally raped wouldn't qualify as "rape."  Carnal knowledge specifically means vaginal sex?  Another thing this petition didn't answer is don't the rest of these crimes qualify as sexual assault, and wouldn't that also be included on the FBI's report?  I need more information.

If rape's as common as they say it is, it makes it a little less special to me.

They're probably following the same reasoning as those women who claim to be virgins based on the fact that they haven't had vaginal intercourse (because they're "saving themselves" for marriage out of religious or similarly stupid reasons) but have done every other imaginable sexual act, sometimes with multiple partners.

You know, 'cause God only counts it as sex if a penis enters a vagina.

Jack, the part that stood out to me in that article was the mention that federal funding is based on the statistics in the UCR, which is why police departments are fudging the numbers.  So let me get this straight, if a police department has low crime numbers, then they get more funding?  Why exactly, to throw more parties because they are doing such a great job?  Wouldn't we want to give more funding to the departments that have a high number of rapes to give them more money to bring that number down?  Am I missing something here?

Yes. If the numbers are lower, it's because its a higher quality police program. So they need more funds to maintain the higher quality. Duh.

Also, everyone knows it's not sex unless you make a baby.

1.) It's not rape if we enjoy it.
2.) A lot of things come up a lot at this place. For some reason, you focus on noticing how often rape, specifically, comes up. That's creepy, Ipsy.
3.) We have an eyeroll icon. It can be located ON THE INTERNET, alongside all our other icons.

I used to have Bokchoi's rapedollar photoshop saved in my old photobucket album, but I also had some porn pics in there I had saved off the net, not realizing that was a violation of their TOS, and they closed my account. I did a search for rapedollar a month or so ago, hoping to find that image on the net somewhere still, maybe in a thread at Mania, but no luck. It makes me sad. Where is Bokchoi when I need him?!

On the subject of rape, the subject, occuring often:

There was an incident that occured, between myself and some of the improv group at a McDonalds that facilitated the creation of a codeword for 'rape'. We call it 'grape'. You know, for the children...who sat behind us...during a 30 minute joke about rape.

I felt terrible...cause that was followed by a long ramble about necrophilia which we also call by a code name for the same reason.

Someone told me I should Blog...jraven56.wordpress.com/

I like coming up with new words. I came up with the term "grape," too, but it wasn't mean to be code for rape, but an amalgamation of rape and another word, though I could never decide what. It would be either gay-rape, or gape-rape, the "gape" being for anal sex. Gape is better because it's more inclusive, since it would also include most gay rape. Grape just seems like a funny word to use like that. I imagine a dramatic scene where a tearful woman cries, "I've been graped!" Now that I've discovered that the F B I doesn't count anal rape as "rape," it's even better. Another word I came up with is "whorp." This would be a combination of whore and rape. I'm not exactly sure what it would mean, maybe that somebody had been raped by a whore. I should add that my pronunciation for this would be HORP, not WORP.

Something else this discussion brings to mind is a video I stumbled on a few months ago where two characters from some movie or show I had never seen made fun of the "rape shower." It made me laugh, partly because I had never realized that had become a cliche. I'll never be able to watch Elizabeth Shue's post-rape shower in 'Leaving Las Vegas' again without thinking about rape shower. When I was looking up the video again just now, I found out that rape shower is actually a term now, referring to taking tearful, scalding how showers to wash the shame away, though you don't necessarily have to be raped first.
