I don't get to watch many cartoons outside of Spongebob, Flapjack, and Phineas and Ferb, but every once in a while, I get to see Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Holy crap is it HILARIOUS!

If you see them on the transport, fake being dead right there! Plus you should carry a toe-tag around with you at all times, just in case you do find yourself in that situation.

The nice thing about your situation is at least you didn't lie to her. If you had lied, i.e. you told her yourself you were dead, and she still believed you, she's really, really dumb, because dead people can't speak at all, let alone lie. I guess I'm just assuming that last scenario isn't what actually happened.

I received my SuperBowl winnings. 20 to 1 preseason odds on a team that finished 8 - 8 the previous season, $20 netted me $420.

^^These atheists need to back the fuck off before I get pissy and give 'em a good old beatdown. I try to take solace in the fact that I'll be laughing from my celestial perch as I peer down at them being butt-raped in hell by the devil, but sometimes even that is not enough.

People can be jerks about religion. On both sides. It almost seems like it's hard for them not to be.

I don't mean to make Jack frown. I like Jack. Even though I don't know Jack. (Hi oh!) I was simply pointing out that once people start talking religion (a topic on which it's almost impossible for a roomful of people to find common ground), it tends to get nasty.

If Jack worries I was calling Jack a jerk, I wasn't. Goiter likes you too much for me to think ill of you. He's always going on about how hilarious you are (and, in his defense, you are the only person to win the Post of the Day award without having to rely on the rest of the board browbeating Goiter into giving it to you; sure, he's the one who gave you the award in the first place, but the guy knows funny)... and not just on Corona. He's totally gay for you.

Is making a pointed comment the same as making a point? I'd hate to think I'd made one of those.

Here's a Facebook exchange from a few days back. Names have been changed to protect the innocent. I thought about submitting it to Failbooking, but the Failbooking folks don't know shit about shit when it comes to what ought to be posted and what ought not to be. I will call the person with whom I want you all to sympathize "Pussy Fucker." I will call the douche I wish you to recognize as a douche "Doodooey DoucheDouche, Esquire III."

The subject of the Facebook exchange: "Is Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country racist?"

Here you go:

Brock Dockers
I don't think that portraying racism makes the movie racist either.

I think the expectation that we sympathize with long-established characters who are now revealed to be more racist than they ever were before makes the movie racist.

I think it's sloppy storytelling on the part of Nicholas Meyer. I don't think that it's malicious.

Pucker Parooney
I don't think revealing that characters we thought were "good guys" had a seedy underside is racist, either. That seems to be an accurate observation of humans in general.

And if it's attributable to sloppy storytelling, then it's not really racist, is it?

If you're going for a racist trek angle, you should probably stick with checkov. I mean, shit, that's practically blackface.

Suggs Sorgensen
well, I don't think its so much the fact that they revealed a sort of unrational hatred for Klingons, but the fact that it was so vitriolic and intense for that one scene, as opposed to the rest of Star Trek, in which they generally just thought of them as an enemy in war

Pussy Fucker
George Lucas died in 1992, and they released Undercovered Country in 1992. I've heard that Richard Matheson, who directed Undercovered Country from his own script, just couldn't wait for Lucas to die so he could finally make the characters more real. Real people have inborn hatred for other people and creatures, and the Innerprise crew had practically been all-loving caricatures of people since the original show's debut in 1973.

They let Matheson do whatever he wanted, since he was the brains behind 1981's Return of Kain, which is everyone's favorite Star Track movie. If you'll remember, that one, too, was radically different from Lucas's original vision.

Suggs Sorgensen
Gene Roddenberry?

Doodooey DoucheDouche, Esquire III
You're going to think what you want. My take away is only that this was a culture clash between two long warring civilizations with Kirk having lost more on a personal level than most. And hell, the whole point was to show how far both sides would eventually go.

All things being equal good, evolved people have their prejudices and can beyond them.

ST VI did more than any other to show the characters as people down to a pair of lowly noncoms talking about how "only the top of the line models can even speak."

But to say that the whole movie is so racist that it takes itself out of canon is absurd and hyperbolic.

Suggs Sorgensen
And Pussy Fucker, I do think TNG got a lot better after Gene Roddenberry died. But I think there were elements of STVI that got worse. Again, not because they tried to make the characters more "real," but because they went so far as to make it seem LESS real because it conflicted with personalities that had already been established.

Pussy Fucker
My favorite part in the Undercovered Country is where Kaiser Gorgon (the one played by Paul Scofield) says, "You have not experienced Goethe until you have read him in the original Kitonak."

Well, I'm paraphrasing.

See, it's funny because Goethe was a human who was a French writer from back in the Renascence (I think; it was one of those olden periods), and the Kitonak version is a translation.

Suggs Sorgensen
I see what you did there

Pussy Fucker
I think Brock's issue with the scene where they reference Guess Who's Coming on Dinner (that's a movie that came out in 1974, just a year after the debut of the Star Track series) is that kids have been taught that the people on the Innerprise are good moral compasses. So if they are being racist, then it is okay for kids to be racist.

The real question is: do the Innerprise characters who show intolerance in the Guess Who's Coming on Dinner scene mature, morally, by the end of the Undercovered Country? Do they show growth? Do they show remorse for their earlier intolerance?

Doodooey DoucheDouche, Esquire III
Are you trolling, being a tard or trolling and being a tard?

Because it's obnoxious all three ways.

Pussy Fucker
Correction:

Goethe was an Italian. He has a book about growing up in Italy called "Italian Raised." (That's the English translation. I'm not sure what the title is in the original Italian.)

I don't know why I thought he was French. My bad, guys!

Suggs Sorgensen
yeah, I get it. I see what you're doing. Is there some kind of prize you would like for your effort?

Pussy Fucker
Doodooey: You repeated "trolling" and "being a tard" once each, so it's really only two ways. And not four, like you suggest.

Suggs Sorgensen: I don't understand.

My mother teaches "tards." They don't like being called that. You're worse than the Kitonaks.

Doodooey DoucheDouche, Esquire III
three ways:
- being a tard
- being a troll
- being a tard and troll

Pussy Fucker
Seriously, "tard" is hurtful and intolerant. I see you wrote it again after I mentioned its hurtfulness to people. I hope you will consider not using it in the future.

Doodooey DoucheDouche, Esquire III
Oh, I didn't know I was supposed to take any of what you said seriously, don't know where I got that idea.

Just trolling then.

Pussy Fucker
Retardation is a serious disease that people have died from. I'd be ashamed of myself if I ever called someone a "tard."

* * *

And that's where it ended. Pussy Fucker tells me he was hopeful Doodooey DoucheDouche, Esquire III would continue responding, if only to see if he would eventually acknowledged having learned a lesson about his liberal use of "tard."

Nah, I was just funnin'. I'm a bit of a clown. I was hoping you were calling me a jerk, though. I was being a bit of a jerk, and it wouldn't be any fun if no one noticed. As some may know, I'm an atheist/agnostic, so I was having a little fun at religion's expense. I thought maybe you were making what seemed to be an innocuous comment, but which was actually a pointed comment about my inability to not be a jerk. I was actually desperately hoping you were doing this, because I crave sarcasm like mother's milk, and I love attention. By "pointed," I mean:

Dictionary.com wrote:

5. directed particularly, as at a person: a pointed remark.
