Corona | Coming Attractions

This is being looked at this week.

I've been keeping an eye on the feedback and bug reports. Already some have been fixed:

-- you should all be able to edit your old posts and subject headers.
-- broken images/photos in database pages fixed.
-- HypeLines are 95% working. I am switching the HypeLines on for movies when I update that database page. The site backs itself up/crunches the database every 24 hours, so it takes that long before a new HypeLine starts to show up for a movie. If you see an error box, give it a day and it should show up.

More fixes to be worked on:

-- getting the avatar/name of the first poster in a message thread to show up.
-- having the number of news items/photos show up in the tab bar on a film database page.
-- having the flash box display the most recently added headline.
-- "Latest Photos" to actually display that database's latest photos.
-- adding the FAQ
-- adding Help/explanation pages for the HypeLine, HypeMeters.
-- adding more support for HTML in the forums.
-- adding the dates in the box for the Latest Box Office figures

There's some more but they're small things. Keep the suggestions coming. Doing my dayjob (working for MovieSet.com, soon to be star on their internet TV show) and writing/maintaining CA is keeping me busy, so don't think that I am neglecting your posts. I'm on here multiple times a day looking around and I have my friends poking me in the shoulder about things too, just to make sure. My #1 is making sure that fresh content gets on the site (news stories, film database updates) but addressing the fixes/improvements is next on the priority list.

Earlier today, I tried to visit the site, and depending on the link, I got any one of the following error pages:

I just noticed in our profiles there's a place to list your Top 10 movies, but when I clicked on Modify, it said it couldn't find the page. Obviously a very minor issue, but thought I'd bring it up.

Oh, and the hidden forums are the movie forums. No one knows they even exist!!

I doubt this is a "bug" issue, but I have noticed that the "Top 10 Hyped Movies" change completely with every refresh. Is hype so fickle? Also, it puts movies I know have little to no hype behind them over movies with genuine hype. Is this some tricky way to bring movie pages to our attention we might otherwise disregard?

Also:

Is there a members page where I can see folks listed alphabetically and the whatnot?

Quasar: the developers told me this was fixed but I guess it's not. I will bring it to their attention first thing Monday morning.

Yes, the forums aren't getting a lot of posts. Currently there are 4 places where users can post comments:

1) in the comments section of a news story/article/review.
2) under the general "Comments" tab in any film database page.
3) after any scoop in a film DB page.
4) in the message forums.

I think there are 2 reasons why people aren't posting more inside the specific message forum for a film but both are connected to the same main reason: it's not easy to see that a movie has its own separate forum. I have 2 ideas on what might fix the issue:

1) Make it easier to see all of the movie forums. Right now you have to click on "Forums" and then click on the button for "Find a Movie Forum".
2) Add a new button/graphic somewhere above the fold on a movie DB page that clearly shows this movie has a forum where people can talk about the movie.

Having a Comments section and a forum for a movie might be overkill too, but I still want to keep both areas open for now and see if more posts start happening inside there. Maybe I have too many ways to talk about in the new CA.

Goiter: I've seen that Top 10 Hyped list and I thought it was weird. I'll get the devs to look at it.

Also, good idea about seeing a members list. Coincidentally I had a dream this morning about ways to offer more community/social networking features for the site. I think that will be a major project for the future; right now there's still some smaller things I want made or tweaked before getting into a major project like that.

Also, I don't like the way you reply to an earlier message, like this one to Goiter. It needs to be clearer and it should include the person's earlier post within the body of the new message.

Patrick, I found a bug, today I posted a comment under the youtube video Casting zombie call for ZOMBIELAND (on the ZOMBIELAND page) and nothing got uploaded... i checked back and it still says "no comments" under the video... i know i posted one... i forgot what i wrote but i'm sure it was witty. :)

Thanks McCracken. I'll get that looked into. It might be as simple as something's not switched on. Keep 'em coming if you come across 'em.

Maybe this is something that only happens to me, but I've noticed that I am sometimes carried to a thread's penultimate page instead of its ultimate page when I click on the new post link for a thread with multiple pages. For example, I will click on the new post link (which link might read something like "2 new") and be carried to the third page, despite there being a fourth page already well underway.

Patrick, dont kow if this is me or not, Corona on IE accepts my user name and password, FLOCK's Corona page accepts my user name and password, FIREFOX's Corona does NOT accept my password nor will it email me with what my password is

The password i was using is not incorrect, it just isnt accepting it when I use the Firefox web browser only and its not emailing me.

Why's the time so wonky? The post I just made is time stamped as 6:30 PM. But where I'm at, it's 12:35 PM. What Time Zone is this thing located in anyway???

yeah I noticed that too. I am assuming that the time is probably GMT.

The latest fixes to the site:

-- HypeLines for movies that started with numbers (20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA) and some others (GI JOE) now work.
-- Users now should be able to view other users' Top 10 lists (here's mine: http://coronacomingattractions.com/users/patrickca?t=movietop10)
-- some analytics/tracking info that you don't have to worry about but I do.

I'm going to file a bug report for the time clock being out of whack in the forums. I think it's an even 8 hours ahead from Pacific Standard Time. That's what I'm going to make CA's home time.

Minor stuff to be worked on:

-- adding a new graphic for the 0 Hype number (1 will then be Frozen)

After that I'm going to start itemizing new features that I would like built for the site. I've got some stuff already in mind but one thing I want to toss out now is ways to improve these forums. What do you want to see? Tell me in the suggestion thread and let's keep this one for the bugs.

Since I arrived at the site a few minutes ago I've been getting fatal errors and warnings when I try to load various forum pages. Refreshing does the trick, but, as an example, here's what I got the first time I clicked to try and open this thread:
