Reporting bugs and other strange things on the site

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, December 18, 2008

Hey all. CA 2.0 is brand spanking new, and as such there there will be things that will need to be fixed or made clearer and better. Making a site like this from scratch is a huge undertaking and natually things will need tweaks, so if you notice something that seems weird or appears broken or just plain doesn't make sense, ask the question here in this forum. There is already a short list started in my head, and maybe some of the stuff that I want to fix up is the same as yours. Maybe there are things that you will discover that I haven't and I'd like to know what they are.

While I'm really happy with the site as it looks and functions now, it's not done. I want to continue to improve it, add new features and make it cooler for you to use and spend time on here. If you have suggestions for future ideas for apps, like the HypeMeter or HypeLine, you can also suggest them in this forum.

I hope it all makes sense, more or less, but if you have questions about the site feel free to ask. I'm going to try and turn around with an answer within 24 hours of you asking it.

Thanks!

Morph and Angeline: thanks for posting this. I think the problem is that the site is getting a lot of traffic to the RETURN OF THE THING script reviews from Fark and Chud. I'm on it and I'm trying to get a hold of someone now to solve the problem. My guess is that the server needs more memory.

Again, thanks. You both did the right thing in letting me know about it right away!

Looks like the out of memory error has been fixed by my host provider. If you spot any more problems, let me know. Thanks team.

I get this all the time, when I click a post:Fatal error: Out of memory (allocated 11010048) (tried to allocate 19456 bytes) in /var/www/web6/web/modules/forum/forum.module on line 672(Only the line number chances all the time)Morph

I got that a few times earlier in the day. I assumed it was a traffic issue, and didn't think to make mention of it until just now.

Ok I am seeing something wierd. When I look at the forums, I am seeing forum with Latest Post dates of May 30th or something, yet when I click on them, there's no new posts and the last posts are from months ago.

Specifically, Adventure and Animation are showing new posts, but I don't see them.

Good catch. I'll bring this to the attention of the devs.

Also, in case it ever caught the attention of anyone, the top 10 list for horror movies would have 2 films listed twice, for whatever reason. That error seems to now be corrected.

Modifying My Top 10 Films results in a page not found error. Apologies if this was previously reported.

Guess what? I got a fever. And the only prescription . . . is more cowbell!

Hmm. Can someone else with a regular user account confirm Bark's problem and also let me know what browser you're using? You should be able to modify that list. If it's a bug I'll make sure that it gets fixed.

Hmmm...that's weird. I was messing around with that the other day, and it worked fine (although deciding what to put on my top ten ended up being useless....so I left it blank).

I just checked again, and I got a "page not found" as well. I'm using Firefox 3.0.11.

I can't seem to change my avatar. I try to delete my old one, and it seems to let me, then I try to upload a new one, but it doesn't let me do that. Then, mysteriously, my old avatar will reappear.

Am I doing something wrong?

When I try to edit or view my profile, I keep getting a "403 Error - Forbidden" page.

atrejub: Thanks. I'll get my developer to look into the problem first thing next week.

It appears the plain text editor is not working with Firefox 15.0 and I am having trouble posting.
Using IE9 doesn't seem to have any problems.

I had some troubles posting a news story with Firefox. I wonder if there's some kind of trouble with the latest upgrade to FF.

Apparently, the issue that Firefox 15 is causing when you try to post in forums has now been noticed by a number of other people:<BR><A title=http://drupal.org/node/1770728 href="http://drupal.org/node/1770728" jQuery1347463214413="73">http://drupal.org/node/1770728</A><BR><A title=http://www.scatoday.net/node/23245 href="http://www.scatoday.net/node/23245" jQuery1347463214413="74">http://www.scatoday.net/node/23245</A><BR><A title=http://deinfotech.blogspot.com/2012/09/firefox-15-and-fckeditor.html href="http://deinfotech.blogspot.com/2012/09/firefox-15-and-fckeditor.html" jQuery1347463214413="75">http://deinfotech.blogspot.com/2012/09/firefox-15-and-fckeditor.html</A>All of those sources claim that the problem goes back to something called FCKEditor, which is, as I understand it from reading the complaints, a tool used for implementing rich text editors in web sites. Supposedly, FCKEditor is outdated and is not supported anymore by the web development community, so their suggested solution is to upgrade to a more recent version called CKEditor because the Firefox team is unlikely to address the issue. It's nothing we can change ourselves - it has to be done from Patrick's side of things (or by the person he pays to do the coding).

Is something up with the Edit Profile area?  I wanted to update a few things, but when I go to edit profile it just says "Personal Information" and underneath it is the "Save" button.  No options, no nothin'.
