April 17, 2009 - Tron 2 / flashback to 1989

Scooped on Friday, April 17, 2009

The Tron 2 production will be filming exterior scenes tomorrow for most of the day in downtown Vancouver. According to a notice sent out to residents living in the vicinity of the filming, we've gotten a slight spoiler about what the scene is but more importantly when it takes place.

The notice informs residents of the area about the street closures that will take place on Saturday, but more important to the Tron fans looking for any scrap of info about the story is this part of the notice: "Since this part of our story takes place in 1989, we cannot see anything that is not from this era. Our scene is a flashback of two of our characters leaving the building and being swarmed by the media. They give a brief interview and then get into a car and drive away."

Garrett Hedlund, the hero of the movie, is 24-years-old, making it very doubtful that he's involved in this scene -- which leads us to theorize that if this may be an appearance by Jeff Bridges' and Bruce Boxleitner's characters. Remember when we last saw Bridges' character Kevin Flynn at the end of the original Tron in 1982 he had been made CEO of Encom? We know Encom is still around because of the spy photos leaked on the net last week, so it's not too far of a stretch to suppose that maybe this is Flynn and his buddy Alan Bradley emerging from a business tower and being flocked by reporters. It's speculation at this point but if someone can get photos showing who these two characters are we'd know for sure. Anyone up for some long distance photography?

Do we *know* Encom is still around, or is that just flashback Encom? What are the markers that let us know that was modern-day Encom? I only glanced at the image I saw briefly. What, of the modern stuff, was supposed to be there, and what was just the clutter of people vulturing the production?
