April 27, 2009 - Videodrome / project announced

Scooped on Monday, May 4, 2009

A remake of David Cronenberg's 1983 Videdrome is now in development at Universal Pictures. Screenwriter Ehren Kruger (The Ring, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) will write the new Videodrome's screenplay as well as produce with partner Daniel Bobker. Rene Malo, the Canadian businessman who held the rights to the property, will receive an executive producer credit. At the present time Cronenberg is not involved with the new Videodrome.

Kruger's take on the material is to expand the scope of the premise. In the original film it was a video signal that caused body mutations; in the remake nano-machines will cause the changes. Kruger also plans on blowing up the action to better fit an action sci-fi mold. [Full story]
