February 6, 2009 - Mary, Mother of Christ / project announced
Scooped on Sunday, February 8, 2009
Camille Belle (Push, 10,000 B.C.) will play the central role in Mary, Mother of Christ, slated to begin filming in May in Morocco. Joining her will be Jonathan Rhys Meyers of The Tudors in the dual roles of Lucifer and Gabriel, along with Peter O'Toole as Symeod.
"This is a part of Mary's life that has never been shown on the big screen before," said one of the film's producers, Mary Aloe. "It takes us through Mary's youth, young love, her life as a new mother and the triumph through the absolute terror of Herod the Great's reign. It is truly a story of real female empowerment."
The film's makers are hoping that their project has the same broad appeal as 2004's The Passion of the Christ. To help build their case they enlisted Passion's co-screenwriter, Benedict Fitzgerald, to pen the script for Mary along with Barbara Nicolosi. [Full story]
