Scooped on Saturday, January 8, 2011
Scott Derrickson, the director of the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Exorcism of Emily Rose is now attached to Goliath, a retelling of the Biblical legend from the book of Samuel. As written by John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, this new vision is imagined by producers Ryan Kavanaugh, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen to retell the Old Testament story in the vein of such modern sandal epics as Gladiator and 300, with a heavier emphasis on action. Goliath is set in motion to find the prophecized future king of the Israelites and kill him. A young shepherd named David is rumored to be that future leader. After having to flee for his life, David finds that the lives of those that he cares for are also in jeopardy from Goliath and his masters, leading the shepherd to eventually confront Goliath in a climactic battle.
Derrickson is also attached to helm the science fiction movie The Substitute for Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures and Columbia Pictures.
