July 30, 2011 - Prometheus / Damon Lindelof answers Alien Harvest question
Scooped on Saturday, July 30, 2011
While we know that the storyline for Prometheus has some ingredients that link it to Alien as well as Jon Spaihts earlier draft (when the project was still called untitled Alien prequel), we still don't know if Spaihts jettisoned script was titled Alien Harvest. If it was, what chunks of it went into the early development of Damon Lindelof's script for Prometheus?
Collider had the opportunity to ask Lindelof these questions and got some interesting answers back. Consider this cryptic answer that the writer gave when addressing what appealed to him about the Spaihts screenplay:
"There was a great idea nestled in the draft that was written by Jon Spaihts that sort of started this whole journey, that I felt was subtext and needed to become text, and that began the journey that Ridley and I went on."
This answer came in response to Lindelof saying that one of the facets of the original Alien that he likes is that there are mysteries presented in the story, like the Space Jockey's ship and the origins of the Alien eggs, that never got addressed.
Later on in the interview Lindelof is asked by Collider's reporter whether the Alien Harvest script that we reviewed last year is real or fake. His reply?
"What's Alien Harvest? Am I supposed to know what that is? ... Is Alien Harvest maybe a screenplay out there? ... I'm either playing a really good job at playing stupid, or I'm embarassed that I should know the answer to that, and I don't."
Read into that what you will.
