July 4, 2009 - Slumdog Millionaire / Azharuddin "Azhar" Ismail moves into his new Mumbai home
Scooped on Saturday, July 4, 2009
One of Slumdog Millionaire's child actors has moved into a new home paid for by the trust set up by the film's producers. 11-year-old Azharuddin "Azhar" Ismail and his parents walked into their new 250-square foot apartment yesterday, located near Mumbai's Bandra district. The family was evicted from their dilapidated iron hut last May during an illegal city crackdown by Mumbai's government on the city's slums. The Jai Ho Trust, set up by director Danny Boyle and producer Christian Colson after the success of Slumdog Millionaire, is trying to purchase better homes for the film's child actors and will administer Azhar's property until he reaches 18 and legal age.
