June 23, 2012 - The Bourne Legacy / movie release gets pushed back one week

Universal has reshuffled the release of The Bourne Legacy movie one week, from August 3 to August 10. The studio issued a press release explaining their decision was based on their concern that their fourth Bourne movie was originally positioned too close to the July 20 release of The Dark Knight Rises. If the third Christopher Nolan Batman movie performs like The Avengers movie did earlier this spring, the buzz for Bourne Legacy might be drowned out in the clamor for The Dark Knight Rises.

Another reason for Universal's concern is the July broadcast of the Summer Olympic games which begins July 27. Universal plans on using the Olympics domestic broadcast network, NBC, to create greater awareness of the impending release of The Bourne Legacy.
