June 27, 2009 - Star Trek / missing screenplay scenes revealed

Scooped on Saturday, June 27, 2009

Finally an assessment of the missing scenes from Orci/Kurtzman's Star Trek screenplay has been published. TNMC has a breakdown of what moments from the script either didn't get filmed or wound up on the cutting room floor, a few of which were: Spock's birth on Vulcan; what was supposed to happen to Nero and the Nerada immediately after attacking the U.S.S. Kelvin; how Kirk hacked the Kobayashi Maru test; an alternate meeting between young Spock and Spock Prime; and a surprise cameo from another cast member of the original Star Trek. Find out the details.

This is the true geek in me speaking, but I do wish they'd done the Kobayashi Maru the same way they did in the book of the same name.

If you don't know, it was the same BASIC idea, he hacked the system. But the result wasn't an easy win, it was funnier. He broadcast his name and, in trembling voices, the Klingons responded "THE Captain Kirk? We didn't know it was you, sir!! How can we help you!"
