March 17, 2011 - Daredevil / David Slade hired to direct remake
Scooped on Saturday, April 28, 2012
According to several sources, 30 Days of Night and Twilight: Eclipse director David Slade is in final negotiations to direct a new Daredevil movie for 20th Century Fox.
Aside from that bit of intel, nothing else is known about the project. Ben Affleck won't be returning to play the part of blind Hell's Kitchen attorney Matt Murdock/the man without fear, and it's very likely that Slade's Daredevil will be different in its approach and style than Mark Steven Johnson's 2003 superhero movie.
What's going on? Well, if Fox doesn't act within a couple of years the studio will lose the movie rights to Daredevil and they will revert back to Marvel. That would leave the door open for a Disney-created Daredevil film, TV series or anything else.
Johnson's Daredevil movie was tepidly received by fans of the character as well as the general movie-going audience, collecting just $179 million worldwide. Jennifer Garner reprised her part as Greek assassin Elektra in a 2005 movie, and that stunk even worse with a $56m worldwide tally.
