March 24, 2009 - Stoneheart / Disney in talks for rights
Scooped on Tuesday, March 24, 2009
Walt Disney Pictures and ImageMovers are in negotiations to acquire the screen rights to Stoneheart and its two subsequent sequels. Written by Charlie Fletcher, the trilogy of young-adult books enters on a 12-year-old boy named George who accidentally enters into a parallel reality where good and evil statues can come to life. The third novel, Silvertongue, is arriving on bookstore shelves next month.
ImageMovers is the production company of director Robert Zemeckis. He will produce the Stoneheart film along with company partners Steve Starkey and Jack Rapke.
There was no mention in the Reporter's story of Stoneheart being originally set up at Paramount three years ago. What's almost certain to have happened is that Paramount decided to not renew the rights (and the property went into turnaround) or wasn't given the option to renew, thus attracting the interest of Disney.
