November 11, 2008 - Star Trek / 1st reveal of the Enterprise
Scooped on Sunday, November 16, 2008
To quote one Khan Noonian Singh, "There she is!" The first reveal of the redesigned U.S.S. Enterprise for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie has appeared courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. At first glance and to the average person this latest version of the Enterprise doesn't appear to be all that different from the ship that appeared in the first six Trek films. However, knowledgable Starfleet personnel will see that the engines are slightly different, having a larger and more streamlined undercarriage at the forward part of them. As well, the ship's blue deflector dish is different from the red-hued saucer remembered from the 1960s TV series.
EW also has a quote from Abrams to go with their debut of the NCC-1701. "The coolest thing about [the Enterprise] -- maybe the coolest thing in [the 1979 Star Trek movie] -- was when you flew around the ship, you could see all the different panels that made up the ship. It was the first time I had ever seen that level of attention, that love of detail, given to the tangible, practical reality of the ship."
