October 10, 2012 - The Amazing Spider-Man 2 / Shailene Woodley in talks for Mary-Jane Watson
Scooped on Wednesday, October 10, 2012
Variety breaks news about some new characters that we will see in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but most of them are only new in the sense that they didn't appear in the first movie.
First up is the character of Mary-Jane Watson, one of Peter's love interests. The character was portrayed in Sony's first three Spider-Man movies by Kirsten Dunst. For The Amazing Spider-Man, director Marc Webb chose to focus on the other major love of Peter Parker's life, Gwen Stacy.
Variety adds that Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) is the frontrunner for the Mary-Jane role.
Next is a talent search for two male characters. One is for Harry Osborne (played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy), a friend of Peter's that eventually turns into an adversary.
The third and final character sought for ASM2 is that of a new villain to the Spider-Man movie franchise, namely Electro. In the credits sequence to the first movie we see an unrevealed person approach Dr. Curt Connors in his jail cell. Lightning appears around this mysterious character, which heavily hints that Electro is coming soon into the wall-crawler's life.
