September 30, 2009 - Shiver / project announced
Scooped on Saturday, October 10, 2009
Former New Line Cinema executives Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne have bought the screen rights to Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver novel and the two remaining to-be-published books in the series. A supernatural romance in the vein of Twilight, the story centers on a teenage couple. The young woman discovers that her boyfriend changes into a wolf every winter but together they discover a way for him to remain human and avoid the transformation. Stiefvater's book was published in August and has been on the bestseller list for six weeks.
"I'm not the biggest werewolf or vampire fan, but the author has a strong take on a young adult sensibility," Shaye told Variety. "It's also a sexy love story that isn't too over the top."
The producers will present the project first to Warner Bros. where they have a first-look deal. A screenwriter is being sought. [Full story]
