This is so MASSIVE it can't possibly be true??

Posted by Daltons chin dimple on Tuesday, October 30, 2012

Lucasfilm has been purchased.

By Disney.

For $4 Billion.

And announced Star Wars Episode VII for 2015.

This has to be some kind of epic practical joke right? This is too massive to actually happen?

I just posted this in the SciFi forum, but nobody ever reads any of the other forums :(

If this was near April 1, I would be sure it's a fake, but Disney is rolling in all that Marvel money, so why not buy another property? Hell if they can make new SW movies that are of the same quality of their Marvel movies, they get two thumbs up from me.

They should get some of the Pixar people to be in charge of making Episode VII.

 Wow.

I'm in shock.

This seems insane!

Who'd have thought we'd see this before Lucas passed away?  Not this guy!  I'm still undecided as to whether I'm ecstatic at this news or if I want to get wasted and pretent its fake.  On the one hand, if they can keep GL out of the director's chair then it could be good.  There are amazing directors out there that could give us another excellent story in a galaxy far, far away....

So now the speculation obviously starts...what will Ep. VII be about?  Will they re-cast all the "regulars" or try to get Harrison, Mark, Carrie, etc. back?  Will they do the Thrawn Trilogy like so many have hoped that they would?  My mind boggles at the possibilities, (good and bad).

I just sat here, stunned.  I know it's November.  I have known the date all day in the office.  But I seriously had to process a while before deciding it was not April 1st.

THIS IS EPIC!

I honestly don't know what EP7 could be about. I hope they do the Thrawn trilogy, but there's about 5 years of EU in there and I can see it really messing up canon and the timeline if they try to shoehorn something new in that period.

Isn't the rule that everything not in the 6 movies is just not canon, end of!?

The EU is just FanFic that was lucky enough to get published.

Well, there's canon and then there's canon.
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Canon

As a wookieepedian I am very concerned with canon. The freaking Clone Wars have caused enough problems trying to keep things straight.

side note: as I was typing that, I typed Clown Wars. Not sure if that's something subliminal or an idea for a really awesome video game/band name.

It's still October for 2 more days. Maybe less in Brit land.

It's November.  Financial planning on in-flight projects never looks backwards.

The idea of another Star Wars movie makes me physically ill. I can't do it. Even if it's good. Star Wars is done for me. I don't care who's in it. I don't care who makes it. I can't go through more cinematic Star Wars. It'll feel like I'm looking at a zombified/vampirized relative. It'll draw me in with its zombie vampire evil, and everyone I know will be screaming out, "Thursty! Thursty, damn it! Come back! Don't! That's not your Star Wars! The Star Wars you love is gone! It's dead! No, Thursty! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

More Star Wars under Lucasfilm (as was) = meh!

More Star Wars from the Pixar people who defied my low-ass expectations re: The Avengers universe = me interested again.

More Star Wars from the people who fucked up John Carter = note of caution.

More Star Wars from that Co after they binned the execs behind John Carter with no messing about = hope rekindled.

So I guess we'll see.

John Carter wasn't terrible, but I also felt like I didn't care about any of the characters. Maybe I should rewatch it.

But if Disney pwns Lucasfilm, they can REBOOT the whole thing.

Fatboy did a blog post about that somwehere. I'll see if I can find it. His idea was pretty groovy.

Hmmm. This could be really bad, or it could really good. I'm thinking take one of the better stories from the extended universe and give it to someone like Guillermo del Toro. I would pay to see that.

But whatever they plan, I'm not going to get excited about it, since there's too much potential for something horrible.

 2 things...

First the more I think about this the more excited I get.  My biggest reason is that I will now have the opportunity to take my 2 sons, (4 and newborn), to see NEW Star Wars movies on the big screen, and that is awesome.  My 4 year old just watched Empire and Jedi for the first time, (kept him away until he could understand the big reveal), and he was sobbing at the end of Empire.  Not because of the reveal, but because they hadn't yet saved Han!

Second, now that Disney owns this they will quickly realize they can make a bunch of money slapping the theatrical versions of the OT on Blu-Ray and selling it.  And that is a GREAT thing.  Thursty, I bet even YOU can agree that is good.

I'm excited.  I wonder if there is any chance of Carrie, Harrison or Mark reprising their roles.

I'm just surprised no-one's made fun of the title of this thread yet.

Surprised, and frankly, more than a little disappointed.

In all of you.  :(

It was an obvious chance to hurl some fat jokes in my general direction. (I'm so fat, hurling them in my general direction might as well be hurling them directly at me.) It was also obvious in the Jakester-would-normally-be-the-first-to-comment-on-it sort of way.

I would've made a joke about the thread title, but I wanted to make sure Jakester was ok first.
