So, it's been confirmed who Cumbercabbagepatchadams plays, and that a certain race is back in the game.
Too spoilery to go further???

The first one's not Trek.
I was speaking for them since none of them are currently represented on this site.
I read Trek-Movie's report last night and didn't post it on the site. Yet.
I don't have any inside sources this time for the new TREK movie, but it strikes me as weird that Cumberbatch would be playing Khan. Casting a caucasian actor in the Khan role doesn't seem like a move that Orci/Kurtzman would back, as Trek nerds. I'm not saying it's completely out of the question, but it would have to be a decision that they stepped into knowing that there would be nerd backlash, and some mainstream odd looks.
Now, what I find more plausible: in the JJverse/alternate TREK movie timeline, Khan died and one of his followers took his place as leader of the augments. Now who would be that character?
Or put another way, have any of you noticed the facial similarities between Benedict Cumberbatch and Judson Scott, the actor who played Joachim in STAR TREK II?

What if a "Khan" isn't the name of an individual in the JJverse but the name for the supermen followers of Khan?
I just like saying "Benedict Cumberbatch." I don't care who he's playing.
Although it would make no sense at all for him to play the actual Khan character, I can see him playing superhuman. He does snotty very well.
Also, while I'm not getting paid to be a screenwriter on the new TREK movie, it's fun to play around with other peoples' toys:
We know Nero's intrusion in time caused the old timeline to get all messed up. Let's also suppose that one of the ripple effects was causing the SS Botany Bay to be discovered earlier than Kirk in TOS found it, and that Khan was revived earlier (or maybe he died as a result of system failure, like what almost happened in the "Space Seed" episode). The people that found the Botany Bay learn from that first error and subsequently revive the augments 1-20 years earlier than the original TREK history timeline.
And here's another thought: no one knows the name of the character that Peter Weller is playing. Playing the "suppose" game even further, what if he was playing an elderly version of the racist character he played in STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE, Paxton? What if Paxton and his Terra Prime group found the Botany Bay and revived the augments because they feared humans socializing with alien races, and Terra Prime believed a good ol' fashioned dose of supermen could secure Earth's place in a dangerous and hostile universe?
Paxton's group captures the Botany Bay, unfreezes the augments, accidentally kills Khan and subsequently the new leader is given the honorary title of "khan"...and his name is Joachim.
My little idea appeases the old school TREK fans who dislike the JJverse for not having any lineage to the TOS-era 'verse, and it reintroduces the augments and the name "khan" for a whole new generation that don't give a whip about some (awesome) guy named Ricardo Montalban.
For a while I've thought that one of the "races" that should exist in the TREK-verse are the augments, and they should have carved out a small stellar empire. The Klingons/Romulans/everyone else have more reason to hate the humans, and the humans have a new adversary out in space that came directly from a dark spot in their past...and the fans get to have the super-cool legacy of Khan Noonian Singh as a permanent larger part of STAR TREK.
If one augment could steal a starship and nearly blow the greatest Starfleet captain and his crew to kingdom come, imagine what an empire of supermen and women could do to Klingons, Gorn, Tholians, etc.
I think Cumberbatch could do Montalban in the same way that Urban does DeForest Kelly. I'm just not sure that he should.
All that aside, I really don't have any strong opinions on any of it. I think the sequel will be big, and action-y and stuff will blow up, and there will be come great lines and good character moments. But I don't expect it to go much deeper than that.
Why would Cabbagepatch playing a character called Khan with Singh at the end be any worse than somebody called Ricardo?
That is like getting all upset Herman Rodriguez gets cast as the new James Bond, ignoring the fact that Akinwade Mombassa played Bond in the film before.
All I know is there better be a KHHHAAAAAANNNNNN!!!! moment, or heads are gonna fly!
Yeah, but it's kinda 'no win' isn't it? However you do it people will think you a pandering sell out or a raper of past greatness.

And lots of lens flares. Don't forget the lens flares.

You've said far too much already.
