'Too Fat' Actor In Airline Twitter Tirade
9:05am UK, Monday February 15, 2010

James Jordan, Sky News Online

Filmmaker and actor Kevin Smith has launched a furious Twitter attack on a US airline after he was booted off a flight for being too fat.

The director of cult film Clerks and creator of the Silent Bob character was thrown off a Southwest Airlines flights from Oakland to Burbank.

He launched the Twitter attack on the airline to his 1.6 million followers and even posted a picture of himself puffing his cheeks out in his plane seat.

He wrote: "I broke no regulation, offered no 'safety risk' (what, was I gonna roll on a fellow passenger?)"

He added "Wanna tell me I'm too wide for the sky? Totally cool. But fair warning, folks: IF YOU LOOK LIKE ME, YOU MAY BE EJECTED FROM @SOUTHWESTAIR."

As he explained on the site, the plane's captain had him removed from a plane after he was deemed a "safety risk".

"I know I'm fat, but was Captain Leysath really justified in throwing me off a flight for which I was already seated?" he wrote.

"Again: I'm way fat... But I'm not THERE just yet. But if I am, why wait til my bag is up, and I'm seated WITH ARM RESTS DOWN. In front of a packed plane with a bunch of folks who'd already I.d.ed me as 'Silent Bob.'"

Smith was offered a $100 voucher as an apology, which he refused, and got on another Southwest flight.

Southwest Airlines apologised to the director via Twitter and blogged a longer statement in which it pointed out that Smith usually purchases two seats every time he travels.

I HATE sitting next to fat people on planes. They smell awful.

I don't like it when fat people steal my air. An obese person can have a metabolism that burns twice the calories of someone with a healthy BMI, and all those energy burning fat cells, producing massives waves of body heat rolling off the dimpled flesh, require oxygen to feed them. My oxygen, as I see it. Typing these very thoughts makes me so angry that I could stomp a fat person to death, were one of their hippo-like brethren within stomping distance at the moment. Then I would perform reverse mouth-to-mouth, accomplishing the dual task of making certain their life processes do not restart, and reappropriating my oxygen for personal use.

I heard about this and decided the less news about it, the better for the world. No celebrity story on CA.

No matter where you go, there you are.

I wonder what she sees in multi-millionaire movie writer/director Kevin Smith?

Too fat to Frug
That's what you tell me all the time,
When you really try'n' to put me down,
But I'm hip,
So close your big fat lip,
Yeah, baby,
I may be too fat to Frug,
But at least I ain't too slim to Swim.

Think of me as a megaphone directed at God's eardrum, my child.

Charging obese people extra for flying on an airplane makes sense to me. The average weight for a 6' male is supposed to be 170-188 lbs., and if you have to pay $15 for checking any heavy luggage (and even more than that for luggage weighing above 50 lbs.), then bringing on an extra 50 lbs. on your body should also cost more.

That said, I don't know if people should be kicked off the plane if they are overweight or obese (unless they're extremely obese and it's a full flight). The latest image I have seen of Kevin Smith doesn't make him look that fat - he'd probably fit comfortably in a first-class seat. I don't see him as someone who could add a potentially hazardous amount of weight to the plane.

Hi, HI MY NAME IS GUS. It surprises me, for some reason, to see you make a reference to a song released this millennium.

If Kevin Smith is getting booted off flights, it worries me. I often have to put airplane seat belts on their loosest setting. I get the armrests down, but sometimes my wide ass works its way under them, and they start to ride up. It doesn't help that I'm tallish, and that my knees press into the seat in front of me.

Somebody actually decided to record "Miles' Song"?! Jesus Christ they're either lazy and/or pretentious.

I didn't want the people here thinking you'd be enough of a jerk to quote Pynchon. Good going, HI MY NAME IS GUS. You just blew the cover I laid out for you.

The band was The Librarians, so "pretentious and/or lazy" is probably right. I believe one of them was a librarian.

Wait...Silent Bob is fat?

Lee Unkrich was twittered a pic of himself editing Toy Story 3 on a flight. The woman next to him was oblivious for much of the flight. But he's not fat. I expect he probably takes up more than one seat in coach, though. Hell, my 4 year old probably takes up more than one seat in coach.

If there's a weight limit on anything, it should be on spandex.

Sloofius - (pr. sloo-fi-us) Noun: The description of action of the movement of the buttocks and thighs of an extremely fat person when encased in spandex leggings at least 3 sizes too small for them.
