I am wading into my Xmas gift BluRay pile.

Captain America first, then Super 8. Maybe Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes if not sleepy.

Unleash the Merlot!!

I would love to play Dirk Gently, either stage or screen.

I already have the clothes, my brother says I have the attitude...possibly because I owe him cash but he can't solidly prove it.

Someone told me I should Blog...jraven56.wordpress.com/

I watched The Reader. I thought maybe I shouldn't because of it likely being pretentious Oscar bait, but unfortunately I ignored that red flag. Naturally it sucked. It was so goddamn boring! The second half of the movie I just kept repeating "WHO CARES?" at the screen. Ralph Fiennes obviously didn't. Though he sent Kate Winslet books on tape that he himself created, he wouldn't respond to her letters, and came down to pick her up because she didn't have anyone else, but obviously wanted nothing to do with her ever. But then after she killed herself, he apparently felt the need to spread word to people who cared less than he had. Then the movie fades out to him telling his daughter about Kate, and we're left with the impression that he was basically going to recap the movie we'd just seen, which was 2 hours of nobody giving a fuck about this lady. Oh good story, daddy!

If it's any consolation, I had to read the book twice--once as an undergrad, once as a grad student. It was awful. And I had to read it in the original German, which made it drag even more.

I hear critics go on about 'Community' so much that I'm finally trying to get into it, and I've watched the six episodes that were available to non-Hulu+ members over the past two days (Hulu traditionally has the last five episodes available, but I caught the one yesterday before it expired and before they put up the newest ep).  This show's pretty great.  The newest episode, 'Pillows and Blankets', was extraordinarily funny.  In the middle of the episode, when one character showed up as a pillow-clad version of the Stay Puft Marshmallow man, I howled with laughter.  Ratings are reportedly up since the show recently returned from a three-month hiatus, and people are optimistic it will be renewed for a fourth season, so that's cool.

Community had a strong first season, in my opinion, which is what got me hooked on the show. The second season was all right: they seemed to be experimenting with what they can do with the characters and the plot lines, but this made the humor in the second half of the second season feel a bit forced at times. The current season has been more hit than miss. Especially the few episodes they've shown so far after the hiatus have been very good.

One of my favorite clips from Season 1:

(The wavy visual effect was probably added so that the video doesn't get taken down due to copyright claims by NBC.)

If you really wanted, you could check out some of those places in real life when and if you visit us.

Though I'm sure we could provide you with plenty of non-Willy Wonka related fun.

It's the main tourist destination. It's really really close to the Hofbräuhaus, which we'll have to take you to. It's fairly close to the English Garden, which has people surfing, nudity (when it's warm), and some famous beer gardens, which we'll also have to take you to.

I hope you like beer and meat.

I don't think they're allowed to eat anything else. British cuisine is so confused. My God, they put CORN on PIZZA!

Oh, and I saw "Jeff, Who Lives at Home" yesterday. If you're a Jason Segel fan, you'll probably like it. I liked it okay, but my husband found all the characters annoying. I couldn't help wondering whether Susan Sarandon has a painting of her looking decrepit in an attic somewhere, she still looks radiant in her 60s.

The Germans put corn on pizza. Putting corn on things makes things "American," and they're pretty fascinated with American things.

I am watching The Master live from Augusta.  I don't usually like Golf but this is strangely hypnotic.

I watched last week's 2-hour season opener for The Killing. It was much better than I expected. I feel like the show will be really good for a few episodes and then fall in the same rut where we get a suspect, it's disproved at episode's end. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Also, Richmond may be ruled out as the actual murderer, but WHAT ABOUT THE EMAIL ACCOUNT?!

I watched episode 2 now as well. Parts of the show I like, but I'm still bored by all of the Larsen subplots.

That's not to say that I didn't like the reveals about a much larger conspiracy and the involvement of organized crime in at least some aspect of Rosie's life and possibly death.

It should be obvious to Linden and Holder that someone wanted Richmond framed. It's clearly obvious to both that there is a conspiracy of some kind going on.

The problem with the questions raised is that most of them are probably going to amount to nothing.

Why are we ignoring the email account?! Linden can't have forgotten about it already, can she?

I watched 'A Man For All Seasons' today.  Pretty good; I'd never really seen or read much Henry VIII stuff, except for watching most of the first two seasons of 'The Tudors'.  I recognized the guy who played Thomas More from 'Quiz Show'.  GRRM is a big fan of this type of stuff, so I'm sure he's seen this; I'll bet he was a fan of how Robert Shaw played King Henry (I don't think I would've recognized him at all as Quint from 'Jaws' if I didn't know the actor's name).  I know GRRM has seen numberous Henry VIII incarnations, and he thought John Rhys-Meyers was the worst.  A really fat Orsen Welles is in the movie for the first half hour as Cardinal Wolsey, so that was kind of cool.  One thing that stood out was that the chancellor, first Wolsey and then More, would wear a long, heavy golden chain made of Ses.  I wonder if that was something that was done in other versions, but it definitely reminded me of the chain that the Hand of the King would wear in the ASoIaF books.  When they didn't include that chain in the show, I thought maybe it was impractical, but now that I've seen 'A Man For All Seasons' it seemed to work fine.  I wonder if the GoT producers have seen this movie; you'd think they'd have wanted to watch as many productions of medieval dramas as they could (I'm not sure that Henry VIII belongs in the medieval period, but it's just easier to use that term).  The clothing in the movie is also very different from GoT, so they were obviously going for a different asthetic, but so was Martin (though I think this movie is still maybe closer to the ASoIaF books than the show is, cause Martin didn't describe his characters wearing so much leather; this movie also had many of the characters wearing hose, though, and I know GRRM is not a fan of that particular element of medieval garb, and I'm pretty sure nobody in the books is ever described wearing it).
