What are you watching right now?

I am watching The Karate Kid Part II. It has not aged well.

Just started watching Farscape for the first time. Not a bad show, it is slow moving so far but has peaked my interest to keep on watching it.

I love Farscape! Personally, I like the first season, but it definitely gets better as the show goes on. A few weak episodes still manage to sneak through here and there, but overall Farscape is one of the strongest genre shows ever made, IMO. It has a really good story, and it isn't afraid to go to some dark places (and some bonkers places for that matter). If I had to choose, I would say that the third season is probably my favorite, but the second half of the fourth season is also pretty damned great.

Yay for Doctor Who

I'm watching Clash of the Titans [2010].  It should also be filed under "Current Annoyances."  I don't think I'd even give this movie a "mediocre" rating.  Too much telling, not enough showing.  Characters seemed inconsistent - they're heading off to persumably take down Olympus, but Perseus shouldn't dismiss a gift from the gods?  Huh?  The scorpions and the djinn were cool.  The FX were snazzy, but the screenplay just sucked the life out of the movie.  And does Sam Worthing ever play any character other than Sam Worthington?  What a wasted opportunity.

Clash of the Titans really would have benefited from an actor with a strong personality that takes charge of the main role, but Sam Worthington is unable to deliver that. His Perseus is hollow and without any likable attributes.

Rumour has it that a lot of what you seek exists and was left on the cutting room floor.  Even more of what you seek existed in earlier drafts of the script and was also excised.

Apparently I was in the mood for dark, brooding, and violent movies this weekend as I saw both Winter's Bone and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  I loved both.

Dalty, I heard as much.  It'd be nice to get a director's cut which might improve things somewhat.  I did smile a bit at the clockwork owl, though.

I refuse to make the obligatory joke re: Jakester releasing the kraken.

I was kind of mad that they took a jab at the original Clash of the Titans. It felt like the movie thought it was *so* much better than the 1981 film and needed to legitimize its existence somehow: "Fuck you, Bubo! We don't fucking need you because this movie is waaaay too X-TREEEM for a stupid mechanical owl."

So instead we got Io. Super.

I watched The Road. Didn't really love it. Plus I've got some pretty crappy timing because I'm getting another post-apocalyptic movie from Netflix tomorrow: The Book of Eli.

I'm currently working on a mix of How I Met Your Mother Season 4 and some classic Simpsons episodes. My goals for the week are as follows: 2nd viewing of Toy Story 3. First ever viewing of Die Hard. Kung Fu Panda to get my boss to shut up about how great it is, Winter's Bone because I heard an interview/watched the trailer and it looked all sorts of awesome, followed by getting my mind blown away by Inception on Friday.

Having just seen it, I can confirm that Winter's Bone was awesome, particularly the performances by Jennifer Lawrence and John Hawkes.

Ahhhhh, Die Hard.  The movie with Twinkies, insanely low gas prices, a shortage of shoes, and a giant Teddy bear.  It's also got guns and stuff, but that's not really important.

Yeaaaah, I was made fun of a bit at work this weekend for never having seen it. It's now, oh, third in the to-do list for the week. Kung Fu Panda was all right, but nowhere near Pixar's best stuff.

I avoid mocking people for not having seen movies. Sure, there are movies most people have seen, but I think it's silly to expect that someone have seen a certain movie. We all have shit going on in our lives, movie watching takes time, money, and commitment, and you can't see them all. There's a good chance I've seen more movies than most people, but I can think of a bunch I've never seen. There are even some I have always wanted to see, but never have for whatever reason.

What about Star Wars? Would you make fun of somebody for never seeing Star Wars?

Apparently, I misrepresented Goiter without meaning to. My feeble ears sometimes do not completely process his dulcet tones. What he actually said, he reminds me, is that the two episodes are fan favorites. I did not mean to imply that they were his favorites.

They ("The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances") were good though.

Nope. I recently encountered a Star Wars virgin. I told her I enjoyed the ones that I watched as a kid, but that I didn't think watching them was something that simply had to be done.

She could've been a 25 year old male living in Minneapolis.

Honestly, the list of "great" or "classic" movies that I haven't seen tends to frighten people.

Adam, I am beyond horrified right now.

I can never have sex with you.

Moving on.... took the boy to Despicable Me today.  It wasn't extremely deep but it was funny and heartwarming and I liked it.
