Wierd Question

Posted by omicron on Friday, March 25, 2011

I just recently joined the 21st century and purchased a LCD HDTV. I hooked my xbox up with the HDMI cable and started playing Call of Duty:World at War.

Picture and sound is great, but it's like the controls are now super sensitive, just slightly moving the stick causes my character to spin wildly.

Is this normal, and i just have to adjust to playing in HD, or can I adjust the sensitivity for the controller somewhere?

Without being able to see exactly what you're seeing, it's hard to tell if this is normal behavior or if something else is going on.  I haven't really heard of HD making controls more sensitive or anything...maybe it just feels faster for some reason.  Is your new TV much larger in size than your previous one? If so, the image might appear to be moving a lot faster than it used to even though you're technically moving the same amount.

*shrug*

Anyway, most shooters like Call of Duty have a sensitivity option in their menus somewhere, usually under a "Controls" or "Gameplay" menu.

yeah I'll have to check that, and see if it's the same with other games.
I've gone from a 32" CRT to a 42" LCD HD so it might just be my perception.

I've already set the look sensitivity to the lowest level. It's hard to explain what I am experiencing. It's like the controls are either supersensitive or laggy. Slight movements are fine, but any quick moves result in my cursor wildly careening around the screen. Haven't tried any other games like a 3rd person game like Fallout or GTA.

Appears I've found the problem. My HD tv has a Game Console setting that apparently adjust the hertz rate and stuff. After enabling that mode, the movement and aiming are back to normal. Just in time for the new DLC for Black Ops! :)

So your refresh rate was too high or something? Odd.

Glad you were finally able to figure it out.

Game mode turns off video processing as that delays the image something like 30-60 ms. That smoothness comes [eta: at the cost of] a short delay..

So game mode basically turns off all the processing that make shows and stuff look smooth without blurring I guess. Either way, it's back to good old run and gunning, and getting my ass handed to me by foul-mouthed 12year olds :(
