USA Today has a photo article featuring five new photos from the film including everyone's first look at Gary Oldman's character, Carnegie. In addition to the photos there are also quotes from Denzel Washington and Oldman about their experiences so far making the film. Washington shed his extra 60 pounds of weight that he packed on to play his transit supervisor character in the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123 so he could play the thin and ropy Eli. We also learn that it was Washington's son that convinced him to take the part.

"I live in Carrizozo NM where they are filming some of the movie. I have pictures of the set. They have turned 12th street into a movie set. It really feels like you are in the future."
And that's what a scooper told us nearly two weeks ago. Shortly after receiving their email we replied back and asked if we could see their photos of the set of The Book of Eli. Unfortunately, they never replied back but at least we know the location where the production is filming at.

Michael Gambon has now joined the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gambon's character is "one half of a strangle couple that holds onto old traditions in the futuristic tale," which we take means that his Eli character will be nothing like his Albus Dumbledore from the last three Harry Potter movies.

On his blog Book of Eli screenwriter Gary Whitta just mentioned last month's news about the Hughes brothers coming aboard the project to direct it. While Gaz remains pretty tight-lipped about the other stuff he's working on, he does describe that he considers the storyline of Eli "kind of a post-apocalyptic western."
