When The Crow remake finally films it won't feature Bradley Cooper in the title role. The Hangover actor has left the project over a scheduling conflict with Paradise Lost, the ambitious fantasy/religious picture in development at Legendary Pictures. Legendary wants to shoot Paradise Lost next spring, at the same time that Relativity wants to film The Crow. Cooper must have liked the idea of playing fallen angel Lucifer more than a resurrected rock singer.
But have no fear because there are already prospective new Crows circling the remake. Two names have emerged as frontrunners: G.I. Joe star Channing Tatum and the guy that was formerly interested in starring in the movie, Mark Wahlberg.

Watchmen screenwriter Alex Tse has been hired to write a new screenplay for The Crow remake. This isn't surprising; when a new director boards a project one of their first actions is to hire a writer to include their new take or ideas into the storyline.

Bradley Cooper is in early discussions to play the tragic hero risen from the dead in The Crow. The charismatic star of The Hangover, The A-Team and Limitless, Cooper met with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo in Spain recently and reportedly the two both shared the same kind of ideas for how to make the character and remake work.

Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has now been hired to direct The Crow remake. The Spanish-born filmmaker is in post-production on Intruders, a thriller that stars Clive Owen. Fresnadillo best known to western audiences for having directed the follow-up to 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later.
"The original Crow was groundbreaking cinema," said producer Edward R. Pressman in a company issued press release. "Its gothic visual and musical ideas influenced a generation and cinema itself. With Juan Carlos, we have every confidence that his new Crow will have a similar impact on the contemporary audience."
With their new director found, the movie's producers are now hoping that the remake can get underway in front of cameras sometime this fall.

Director Stephen Norrington has told Comics2Film exclusively that he has departed The Crow reboot. The filmmaker said that he had liked the take on the material that he and screenwriter Nick Cave had come up with, but that a well-known actor had gotten interested in starring in the movie. The star had not liked Cave's take on the material and had asked for a new writer to be brought onboard and a new direction taken.
"As I had gotten involved explicitly as a writer-director my exit was inevitable," Norrington told the site. "I was bummed. I had developed a genuinely authentic take that respected the source material while moving beyond it, and Nick Cave came in and added more depth. I think the fans would have been pleasantly surprised."
Norrington chose not to reveal the identity of the star in question. Before you think that the director is speaking about Mark Wahlberg being the mystery actor not named, what Norrington said next to C2F suggests that the star that deep-sixed his vision of The Crow isn't Wahlberg at all but someone that's not been mentioned in the rumors.
"I will say I think Wahlberg could be cool if they take a gritty blue-collar approach," Norrington said about the rumor that surfaced this week that Walhberg was interested in playing The Crow. "He's a truthful actor. I think he could really ground the supernatural stuff."
