Variety reports that Sam Fell has come onboard to direct Demonkeeper. Fell's most recent screen credit was on Universal's The Tale of Despereaux, released last holiday season, and before that he co-directed DreamWorks' Flushed Away. We imagine that Fell's prior experience on animated films will undoubtedly add toward creating Demonkeeper's clawed creatures that are most likely be created using computer effects.

Fox 2000 has picked up the screen rights to Demonkeeper, a young adult novel set for publication this fall. Written by Royce Buckingham, the story centers on a Seattle teenager who inherits a home filled with mischievous demons. When the teen goes out for a night on the town, rival youths enter and release the Beast, one of the most fearsome wards that was being withheld in the home. Now the hero has to find the freed demon and return it back to the confines of the home before it attacks someone.

Literary rep Ken Atchity will produce along with Chi-Li Wong and Mike Kuciak.
