Up 'til now no imagery showing what red-skinned Green Lantern corps member Abin Sur looks like in the film has been released or leaked. As Comic-Con 2010 begins, two sites have gone in to scan the convention center floor and they've photographed an interesting display case positioned at the Warner Bros. booth. Inside the transparent tube is a full-body sized model of what looks like the character.

While there is one major difference between the Abin Sur in the Green Lantern comic book and this prop (namely the look of the character's muscular skin), this is likely the debut of the movie Abin. It's not too great of a spoiler to say that in the Green Lantern mythos Abin Sur dies early in the story so the GL ring can pass on to Hal Jordan...and that being on display inside the WB booth sure looks pretty dead to us.

Both Cinema Blend and UGO have photos of the Abin Sur body.

A number of movie news websites are making a bigger deal than it should be from some Green Lantern artwork shown in the pages of a licensing catalogue. Some sites are erroneously reporting the GL logo displayed in Lisencing magazine as  the movie's "official" logo when in fact it's merely the logo art used from the DC Comics comic book. Just to clear things up, there's been no evidence that the Green Lantern movie's logo has been created by Warner Bros.' marketing department yet. We've seen this kind of advance marketing push before, especially by high concept movies looking to attract potential licensees, and the artwork used to grab the attention of businesses never turns out to be the final artwork used for the movie. Based on the typical movie marketing done a year out from the release of the film, we're certain that the GL logo and artwork displayed on the cover and in the pages of License magazine isn't official movie artwork.

So, to sum up: this isn't the movie's official logo, it's something that Warner Bros. Consumer Products is using to attract companies to make Green Lantern movie themed products.

There was talk that his superhero suit would be rendered using computer graphics. This photo (which originally appeared on MTV) seems to confirm that some (if not all) of the time we'll see Ryan Reynolds wearing his Green Lantern costume it will be created using CG.

Note the painted on black and white dot pattern on Reynolds' neck, presumably to tell the graphics crew where the Lantern costume begins/ends.

Chief Creative Officer and Green Lantern comic book writer Geoff Johns was interviewed by Comic Book Resources this week. One of the questions asked was about what the writer thought of the Green Lantern movie, of which he's visited the set down in New Orleans. Johns had this to say:

"The movie looks fantastic. I'm heading back down to New Orleans in a few weeks, but I just watched the Abin Sur/Hal Jordan dailies, and it's amazing seeing that ring passed to Hal in live action. Abin Sur looks kick-ass.

"They did such a great job. They've got Grant [Major] as a production designer. He's from Lord of the Rings, and the visuals on this film are nothing like you could imagine. It's definitely a Green Lantern fan's dream. For me, it's kind of insane to see this stuff come to life.

"And Ryan Reynolds is a perfect Hal Jordan. He brings a lot of humor to it, but he also has the humanity that Hal has. And a little bit of the arrogance, so it's a great match."

The Closer star Jon Tenney has been cast in the role of the father of Green Lantern, test pilot Martin H. Jordan. "Ryan Reynolds is the Green Lantern, and when he is a young boy, like 11, I'm his father. I'm Hal Jordan's dad. I'm very excited – it's incredible company," the actor told Superhero Hype.

Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Green Lantern as Dr. Amanda Waller, described by Variety as a government agent. In the DC Comics world Waller is a key player in the affairs of superhumans, a woman with a tough exterior who doesn't shy away from making the hard decisions. She is also in charge of the Suicide Squad, a team of lower level ex-supervillians who are commuting their prison sentences by doing life-threatening missions for the government.

With Warner Bros. also developing a Suicide Squad movie, could we be seeing the groundwork for that movie being laid with the inclusion of Waller's character in the Green Lantern film?

Temuera Morrison and Taika Waititi, both native New Zealand actors, have won important roles in the Green Lantern movie.

Morrison, known to the sci-fi crowd for playing Jango Fett in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, is slated to play Green Lantern Abin Sur. As fans of the comic book know, Sur was the red-skinned alien that crashed to Earth. Dying of his injuries, Abin Sur asked his Lantern ring to find a replacement for him before dying. Test pilot Hal Jordan was found by the ring and brought to Sur's remote location where he passed on the mantle of Green Lantern stewardship for sector 2814.

Waititi, who appeared in Eagle vs. Shark, will play the best friend of Hal Jordan.

Filming starts this week for a June 17, 2011 release.

Perhaps because of the tremendous success of Avatar in its 3-D format, Warner Bros. has announced plans to release Green Lantern in 3-D. What remains unknown is whether the studio will film the movie using 3-D camera (which carry a higher cost and would push the movie's budget higher) or make a 3-D version of the 2-D film in post.

He's already been in one comic book movie adaptation and that was 1985's Howard the Duck. Now Green Lantern makes two.

Tim Robbins has joined the cast of the GL movie to play Senator Hammond, the father of Hector Hammond (to be played by Peter Sarsgaard). The elder Hammond is disappointed in his son, which may cause the boy to have a complex and go after the emerald hero.
