The studio has announced Halloween 3D for a October 26, 2012 release. If the Weinstein bros. want to make that date you can expect casting and director announcements in the next few months.

A report filed by Deadline Hollywood informs us that Todd Farmer handed in his screenplay for Halloween 3 last week and that the Weinstein brothers wanted to have the sequel rolling in front of cameras by November. However, the plan has apparently changed; now director Patrick Lussier will be allowed to go off and film Drive Angry first and then come back in early 2010 to begin shooting the new Halloween movie. The time between now and then will be used to tighten up Farmer's script with the hopes that the end product will be a better movie experience. [Full story]

Patrick Lussier is confirmed as the director of Halloween 3D and joining him will be the screenwriter of My Bloody Valentine remake, Todd Farmer. Farmer also wrote the screenplay for 2001's Jason X, received a story by credit for 2007's The Messengers and also penned the screenplay for the yet-to-be-released Clock Tower film.

Dimension Films co-chairman Bob Weinstein announces that a third Halloween film is in development, and that it will be filmed in 3D. Weinstein wants the movie released in time for summer 2010. Rob Zombie won't reprise his role as director/writer on the second sequel but Dimension was in talks with an experienced horror director who has a "different take" on the franchise. The director's name was not given.
