We Were Soldiers and Braveheart scribe Randall Wallace has been brought in to perform a rewrite on The Last Pharoah, the historical action-drama in development at Columbia Pictures. Will Smith has been attached to play the film's lead, the pharoah Taharqa, for a number of years. Smith will produce through his production company, Overbrook Entertainment, along with his longtime business partner James Lassiter. Ken Stovitz is also a producer on the project.

Carl Franklin (Devil in a Blue Dress) and Chris Hauty (Never Back Down) have worked on earlier versions of the script.
