Predators screenwriters Alex Litvak and Mike Finch have been hired by Columbia Pictures to write a new script for Masters of the Universe. Film rights for Mattel's Masters of the Universe have now been purchased by Columbia Pictures. Escape Artists (Knowing, The Pursuit of Happyness) is being eyed to develop the property for the studio. Since Columbia is starting from scratch with its development we've gone back to calling this project Masters of the Universe until a more solid title is announced.

Variety's report doesn't go into the same level of detail as Latino Review's about the contributing factors that led to WB growing cold with the property but the trade does mention that it appears director John Stevenson will remain attached to the film as Mattel takes the screen rights back to shop them elsewhere.
Warner Bros. still has the movie rights to Mattel's Hot Wheels, again with Silver Pictures developing.
