The cast of Percy Jackson has grown by two, adding Rosario Dawson and Steve Coogan to its line-up of Greek gods.
The duo are playing the husband and wife pair known as Hades and Persephone. According to Greek legend Hades is the ruler of the underworld. When he sought a wife he wooed a human woman named Persephone but she couldn't bring herself to be away from her family forever in Hades' dark underground kingdom, so for half the year she returns to the Earth to visit with her relatives. In the Percy Jackson film Dawson's Persephone will be imprisoned and also be a bit of a flirt with Percy's best friend Grover.
Lensing is happening right now in Vancouver, B.C. on the Percy Jackson film, the first in what 20th Century Fox hopes will ultimately be five Percy Jackson films. Logan Lerman plays the title character, the half-human, half-Greek god son of Poseidon (Kevin McKidd). Rounding out the cast are Pierce Brosnan (Chiron), Uma Thurman (Medusa), Sean Bean (Zeus) and Melina Kanakaredes (Athena). The film is set for release on February 12, 2010.

Catherine Keener has joined the cast of Percy Jackson, formerly known by the title Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. She's playing the mother of the main character, a young teenager who discovers that his father is the Greek god Poseidon.
The role of Poseidon has already gone to Grey's Anatomy co-star Kevin McKidd. Logan Lerman plays Percy while Pierce Brosnan is Chiron, Sean Bean is Zeus, Uma Thurman is Medusa and Melina Kanakerides is Athena. Hades, the villain of the movie, has yet to be cast.
Keener will also play the mom of a young boy in Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are, coming out in October.
Filming began on Percy Jackson earlier this month and will run through until August.

Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Uma Thurman, Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakerides will play Greek gods in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.
Based on the first book in Rick Riordan's young adult series, Percy is a 12-year-old that discovers his father is the sea god Poseidon (to be played by McKidd) and he is destined to be a major player in a prophesized war between the gods and the titans. Logan Lerman (3:10 to Yuma, Hoot) has already been cast in the main role as Percy while Brandon T. Jackson and Alexandra Daddario will play his close pals.
Brosnan will play Chiron; Bean is Zeus; Thurman will play Medusa; and Kanakerides will be Athena. Variety also mentions that there are three remaining Greek god roles left to fill, those being for Persephone, Aries and Hades. Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone) starts directing the film next month in Vancouver.
The fifth and final Percy Jackson novel, The Last Olympian, is published on May 5.
