May 17, 2013 is the release date now announced for Pixels. Formerly that date had been set for Roland Emmerch's sci-fi/actioner Singularity, but more time was needed by the director to massage his script.

Longtime go-to man for Happy Madison Productions, Tim Herlihy will write the screenplay for Pixels. Herlihy has been right beside Adam Sandler throughout his career, writing the script for Big Daddy, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, The Wedding Singer, Bedtime Stories and several other Sandler vehicles.

Patrick Jean's short film Pixels is being developed as a full-length theatrical film by Happy Madison Productions, Adam Sandler's production company. Sandler's team is talking with Columbia Pictures, the studio where the comedian has made several films and where Happy Madison has a first-look deal.
According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog, Happy Madison envisions the Pixels movie in the same vein as Ghostbusters, seeing the video game characters entering out world and creating chaos. [Full story]
