DreamWorks has hired screenwriter Mark Verheiden to write Quartermain for the studio. This project is one of 17 that DreamWorks took with them when they broke away from Paramount Pictures and it will be developed solely by DW.

The Hollywood Reporter covered the announcement of Verheiden landing the writing job. Nothing is known of the premise of Quartermain, just that it is a science fiction adventure based on an original concept; there's no indication so far that DreamWorks' Quartermain project is based on the Allan Quartermain adventurer created by H. Rider Haggard in 1885. Holly Bario and Jonathan Eirich are the DreamWorks' executives overseeing the project.

Verheiden's last job was on the staff of Sci Fi's Battlestar Galactica. Previous to that he worked on Heroes and Smallville. He's one of the few comic book writers to have made the successful leap to television and film screenwriter. Another Verheiden scripting project is Teen Titans, based on the DC Comics superhero group, which is in development at Warner Bros.
