Ricky Gervais has been cast as the voice of Argonaut, a robotic spy dog, in Robert Rodriguez's reboot of his Spy Kids family film franchise. It's not clear how or if Argonaut is related to the kids.
Although the reboot focuses on new characters, original cast members Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo, Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara will appear as their characters from the previous Spy Kids films.
Gervais, who created and starred in the original UK sitcoms The Office and Extras, most recently put in a controversial turn as the host of the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards in January.

Jessica Alba is in talks to play a spy mommy in Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. THR uncovers the Alba news as well as provides details on the movie's storyline which reboots the Spy Kids franchise.
Alba's character is a new mom who was once a spy. She's remarried and is now the step-mother to two pre-teens (two new characters that will become the Spy Kids for the movie.) The mom that Alba will play was also a former spy and now she finds herself brought back to the danger, juggling her assignments with being a new mother. The villain of the movie is a nutty mad scientist type called the Time Keeper.
THR also believes that there will be cameos by the stars of the first three Spy Kids films.
