The brotherly directing/writing team of Joel and Ethan Cohen (No Country For Old Men) are developing a remake of True Grit. The Cohens version of the western will follow the direction of Charles Portis' novel more closely than the classic 1969 movie that starred John Wayne. While the first film told the story from the point of view of Wayne's marshall character Rooster Cogburn, the Cohen's picture will be centered on the teenage girl who recruits Cogburn to help find the killer of her father and bring him to justice.
The Cohens have approached Jeff Bridges to play the part of Rooster in their film. Contract negotiations are presently underway between The Big Lebowski actor and Paramount Pictures.
