Rosamund Pike will take over the role of Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel. Alexa Davalos played the character in the remake but apparently can't make the time commitment needed to star in the second movie. Andromeda was a minor character in the first film, the beautiful woman who was to be sacrificed to the Kraken, but her role is greatly expanded in the new movie.

Actor Liam Neeson provided an update on where the Clash of the Titans sequel is to The Belfast Telegraph, confirming reports that the second film is titled Wrath of the Titans. "I've only read half of the script and there is still some work being done - they're on script 10 - but I think it's going to be some kick-ass stuff and a very human story," Mr. Zeus himself told the outlet.
Neeson added that he believes the film will start filming in March 2011 but was unsure if the picture will be filmed in 3D. The Telegraph also printed the rumors that James Franco and Javier Bardem were in talks to play Agenor, the son of Poseidon and Ares, the god of war, respectively.

Jonathan Liebesman has been confirmed as the director of Clash of the Titans 2. According to THR's Heat Vision blog, the contract negotiations went over the length of the summer because Liebesman held out for a higher quote and he used the good buzz on the early footage from Battle: Los Angeles to position himself as a quality candidate to redeem Clash 2. While still a box office succes, the first movie experienced a wave of negative criticism due to its poor post-3D conversion. Liebesman plans on circumnavigating that problem with the sequel by filming it using 3D cameras.

While talking with the press about his new comic book venture, Sam Worthington also commented on what's happening with the development of the story for Clash of the Titans 2. "They came to me with the story the other day. I said, 'I kinda dig where it's going, but can we make the character more of this? Can we make the character more of that?' It's kind of a case of, 'How do we make Perseus a lot more fun?' So we're sort of shaping it down that track. And Warner Bros. has been nice enough to allow us to have a bit of input."
Worthington also said that he definately wants the sequel to be filmed in proper 3D, and that he wants Perseus to "play a lot more and have a lot more fucking fun than just being a stoic young man who has to stand there and look pretty. I'm sick of doing that."

Warner Bros. has hired two writers to produce the screenplay for the Clash sequel. Dan Mazeau, writer of a proposed Flash movie that the studio passed on as well as Jonny Quest, another slowly brewing WB project, is the first scribe while David Leslie Johnson, writer of The Thing prequel in production at Universal, is the other writer.
The two are working with Greg Berlanti, a Green Lantern screenwriter, on the treatment for Clash of the Titans 2. Once that is vetted by WB, then Mazeau and Johnson will begin penning the screenplay.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that Jonathan Liebesman is the frontrunner to direct Clash of the Titans 2. He's the guy that made Darkness Falls and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel and who is currently in post-production on Battle: Los Angeles, an alien invasion action movie. The paper hears that Warner Bros. wants to have the sequel filming as soon as next January, and that it will be filmed in real 3D (and not post-converted like the first Clash.)

According to Deadline, Warner Bros. has hired screenwriter Greg Berlanti (Green Lantern) to begin writing a sequel to Clash of the Titans. While star Sam Worthington is under contract to reprise his role as the hero Perseus, he may have a scheduling conflict with Avatar 2 if Warner Bros. doesn't have their sequel script ready in a year or so.
Director Louis Leterrier won't be back behind the camera. Instead, his deal on Clash of the Titans 2 will give him an executive producer credit. [Full story]
