Activision is hoping that you still want to make music on your gaming consoles. Today the video game publisher announced an ambitious release schedule for several new entries in their virtual musician line-up begat by the one that started it all, Guitar Hero.
In addition to Guitar Hero 5 being in the works (release date TBA) the company also has plans to release this fall Guitar Hero: Van Halen and a 48 song title dubbed Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits. Band Hero is a new title that widens the participation for all-ages to rock out with its E10+ ESRB rating, incorporating family friendly top 40 pop music so the whole family can rock out to. Finally there is the official confirmation of DJ Hero, a new title that allows gamers to experience what it's like mixing songs together like a DJ in a club. Activision released an image of the new DJ Hero controller, a turntable-like instrument with three buttons on it. DJ Hero will come out for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3/PS2 and Nintendo Wii this fall. Prices for all these new games and swag haven't been revealed as yet.
The Guitar Hero franchise has been extremely lucrative to Activision since its debut in 2005. So far more than 25 million units have been sold, generating $1.6 billion dollars in sales for the company. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock became the first video game ever to reach $1 billion dollars in sales.
