Young adult novel about a girl's monthly visitor gets optioned
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Thursday, November 19, 2009

Cycler is the title of Lauren McLaughlin's novel for young adults and it puts a new spin on the ups-and-downs of being a teenage girl. Jill McTeague, the book's protagonist, lives a seemingly normal life until her body undergoes a change each month. No, it's not what you're thinking as it turns out Jill turns into Jack, a male version of herself complete with all the male plumbing and thoughts for the opposite sex, for four days each month...right during Jill's monthly menstrual cycle. Jill has no other option but to lock Jack in her room during each change, causing the male side of her (who has a different mind than Jill) to become increasingly frustrated. This sounds more frightening than turning into a wolf during the full moon.
McLaughlin's book came out last year and a sequel called Re-Cycler has just been published. Now the movie rights to Cycler and its sequel(s) have been optioned by Angryfilms, the production company of Transformers producer Don Murphy and Susan Montford. Now the producers are looking to shore up their project with a director and attract other companies to invest in the property. Thanks to her former career working for Lionsgate, the author has already turned her novel into a screenplay.

This almost sounds interesting.
