Jaw-dropping trailer for The Force Unleashed II

Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Monday, June 14, 2010

E3, the year's biggest video gaming event is about to slam into high gear in two days. Think of it as the summer movie season crammed into one week: to build up momentum and gain some much needed hype, game companies have been releasing screenshots and trailers for their new wares, hoping to excite the public and newsmakers to cover their titles when the exposition finally opens its gates on June 15.

One of the major players going into this year's E3 is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. Two years ago the first game wowed everyone that played it, delivering a first-rate game set within the Star Wars universe as well as a gripping story. Lucasarts has been in development on the sequel and has now released the second trailer for the game -- and it looks phenomenal. Sam Witwer is back to play Darth Vader's secret apprentice, the story appears to be more established and if the game's curscenes look as good as they do in this trailer, The Force Unleashed II is going to surpass the first instalment by a sizeable margin. Now if The Flannelled One would only see the logic in making a Force Unleashed movie, greatness would once again return to the Star Wars movie world.

Watch the trailer and begin to realize that redemption for the Star Wars franchise could be at hand:

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II is supposed to drop on store shelves near the end of the year.

There's no way the game could be as good as that trailer.

If they can polish up some of the gameplay from the first game, this sequel should be damned good.  I expect force Unleashed 2 to sell even more than the first, which is the highest selling Star Wars game ever.

I fail to understand how something this good could be created with the Star Wars name attached to it, yet the prequels possess nothing even approaching this visually or creatively entertaining. This is what the movies SHOULD HAVE been. This was better than all three of those cinematic pieces of garbage put together. Maybe Lucas should have his game developers handle his future film endeavors.

This is all well and good but if we're discussing the SW Universe at all I am still going sit here, pout and complain that more isn't made of the "expanded universe" novels and the New Jedi Order era stuff. ;(

extremely nice eye candy but honestly all that fight choreography is way old, it dates back to pre-Blade and Underworld and even some older Jet Li and Jackie Chan flicks.
replace the light-sabers with swords and stormtroopers with any number of other generic badguys from any number of generic action/martial arts flicks and you really have seen all this before.

I think that the animators at LucasArts are among the most talented and skilled at their craft but for originality this contains absolutely nothing new.

But you're right, it'll be a top seller again, wake up people please wake up... nothing new MEANS nothing new, and as cool as this trailer is... its nowhere near original.
