Technically, I'm pretty sure that 4.6 million copies of the game were shipped. They only sold 2 million so far. Not that that really matters all that much. That's still a ton of copies sold in a week.

Batman: Arkham City sells 4.6 million copies
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, October 25, 2011
Today marks the one week anniversary of the release for Batman: Arkham City, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's sequel to the bestselling Batman: Arkham Asylum. Now Arkham City can be called a bestseller too as the publisher has released sales figures for the game: more than 4.6 million copies of Batman: Arkham City have been sold for xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Gushing quotes from the people involved below:
"Batman: Arkham City is one of the best action adventure games, proven by the tremendous reviews, and it further establishes the Batman brand as a marquee franchise for our growing business," said Martin Tremblay, President, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. "Rocksteady Studios went above and beyond in delivering an incredible game and the support of the entire team at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment drove the excellent campaign a game like this deserves."
"The true test for any game is what the players think and we have been thrilled by their reaction to Batman: Arkham City,” said Sefton Hill, Game Director at Rocksteady Studios. "The team at Rocksteady put every ounce of effort into making the best Batman experience we possibly could, so we are overwhelmed by the incredible feedback from the community."
Reviews have been wildly positive for Arkham City, with many of the critics comparing the gameplay of the second title to the fun and involving gameplay of the first. Arkham City is more than five times as large as the world in the first game, and features new Batman villains like Two-Face, Harley Quinn, The Penguin, Catwoman and Mr. Freeze as well as returning adversaries The Joker and The Riddler.
The only DLC I'm aware of for Arkham City is the several different character skins that were offered as various retailer bonuses and the Catwoman DLC that comes free with buying the game new. If you want to see a game with a ridiculous amount of worthless DLC available at launch, go look at Gears of War 3.
I think I am going to pick this up later this week when I go get Battlefield 3.

I'm really looking forward to being able to play this on 11/15 when the PC version comes out.
I have to admit, and I imagine I'm a stodgy old fart about it, that I'm not a fan of DLC, and there seems to be a lot of it for this game. It's one thing to have some DLC available after most people have finished the game, but games these days are developed with DLC in mind as a way to nickel and dime the players. That just bugs me.
