E3 2012: Star Trek movie actors lend their voices to video game
Posted by Patrick Sauriol on Tuesday, June 5, 2012
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will make the trip into the Star Trek video game world by lending their voices to their characters in the upcoming Namco Bandai video game being developed. In developed and targeted for release just before the June 2013 release of the next Star Trek movie, the video game takes place after the events in the first movie and before what we'll see in the '13 Trek flick.
In addition to the inclusion of Pine and Quinto, the game's makers also revealed who Kirk, Spock and their Enterprise crewmates will face in the digital adventure: the reptilian race known as the Gorn.
First introduced in the 1966 Star Trek episode "Arena", the Gorn are a lizard-like race of spacefaring warriors. The game's writers have fleshed out the background of the Gorn, giving them different castes that each have their own distinct abilities and deadly advantages.
“The Gorn are among the most iconic villians in the Star Trek universe and their role in this game certainly lives up to that persona,” said Brian Miller, Senior Vice President at Paramount Pictures and the game's lead producer. “Kirk and Spock find themselves in an incredibly challenging amount of mayhem as they confront the Gorn throughout the game."
The Gorn in the Star Trek game have abilities such as infecting their victims with poisonous venom that can cause hallucinations and even kill. From the smaller infantry Gorn Rushers, to the larger Gorn Warriors and the massive Gorn Brutes, the Gorn provides a serious direct threat, while the wall-climbing Gorn females showcase dangerous cunning.
Namco's Star Trek game is being developed so two players can co-op play at the same time.
